Caramel was the one thing that brightened the days of one U.S. soldier stationed in Iraq. This holiday season, the cat and the soldier will be together at home thanks to a rescue effort that transported 26 companion animals from a war zone to the United States.
Two felines were part of a rescue mission known as Operation Baghdad Pups (and cats) coordinated by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals International. As part of the animal welfare group’s largest effort to date, the soldiers’ companion animals put their first paws on U.S. soil in June.
