Keep your cat’s claws off your furniture with this simple home project.

My tablecloth took a year to crochet. Then there were the embroidered pillows, lace curtains, mohair furniture and needlepoint rugs. Our two cats didn’t care  about those things when their paws needed a deep, delicious scratch.

Luckily, everyone’s happy since we’ve built the perfect scratching post. Inexpensive and effective: It’s been three years, and my tablecloth still looks brand new. Even the most carpentry-challenged can breeze through these simple directions.

You didn't show the article, just the teaser. I'm in the middle of renovating my home. My Feb. Cat Fancy is in a box somewhere. I learned about this article in the letters section of April's Cat Fancy. I'm redoing my room and want to build a scratching post, but can't find the article. Help!!

While I haven't read the full article, the author makes a good point about DIY cat scratchers. With a little planning, it is totally possible. Some good tips on the process can be found here:
