So what’s the big deal about the breed that looks like a shorthaired Persian? A lot. As it turns out, their personalities are as sweet as their expressions.
“I’m just totally, totally devoted to them,” says Johanna Leibfarth, a South Carolina breeder who has worked with Exotics since 1972. “They are quiet. They are not nervous and they give you privacy — but they are always around you. They just kind of hang out.”
Exotics, it seems, have mastered the art of balance. Playful but not hyper, affectionate but not demanding, they simply enjoy life with
their people.
“They’re very low key,” says Becky Orlando, current CFA Exotic breed council secretary. “They run and play but they don’t jump up on drapes or jump up on high ledges. They’ll get on a couch. They get on a bed, but that’s about the extent of it.”
