WHAT’S THAT SORE ON MY CAT’S FACE?

Rodent ulcer might sound like a rat’s disease, but it’s common in cats, and there are simple things you can do to help clear it up.

If your cat is living with recurring sores on its mouth, lips or chin, it might be suffering from eosinophilic granuloma complex (EGC), also called rodent ulcer.

Rodent ulcer sounds like something a rat might get from worrying too much, but it’s actually a common inflammatory skin condition that affects cats. It’s believed that farmers coined this name years ago when they thought their cats got mouth sores from eating or being bitten by diseased rats.

Experts now know that rodent ulcer, which is part of EGC, actually is related to allergies or hypersensitivity diseases and has no connection to rats.

My kitty, 1 1/2 has come up with this big sore covering her whole chin almost. I am not sure what it is. Its almost healed now, but it is itching her, and wants me to scratch it for her since she cant. I am trying to get some medicine to put on it to make it stop itching. Help. Any home remedies?

Not sure what my cat has, some sorta sore aruond the crease of the mouth on the left side, mostly an indoor cat, cept when she needs to run around outside, minor inflamation and swelling, doesnt seem to bug her, looks like it has bee scratched by her, could it be an infection from a cat fight? i know getting clawed by the cats sometimes bring a strong burning pain for about 2 hrs before subsiding if i get scratched by them, recently, she has gotten a lil tempramental, has adverse reactions to distemper shots so we no longer give them to our cats, if i could submit a photo for someone to look over lemme know, cliffton.selby@yahoo.com, it looks fairly bad, and unfortunately i cannot afford the vets prices. i could use some help in this matter

Our cat Snoopy has suffered from this condition since we adopted her 3 years ago. Vets have tried steroids and holistic remedies like herbs and tonics. We even feed her human grade cat food (exclusively Turkey) without fish, which was recommended by a previous vet. After we read this article, we went to our local vet and bought Prescription Diet d/d in the Rabbit formula. We surmised that perhaps she was allergic to fowl or some other element in the food she had been given for 3 years. Nearly 3 days later, her ulcers cleared up and she has been without an outbreak for several weeks. We are hopeful for her that we struck gold with this solution.

The article was very interesting as I have two cats who are currently battling with this condition. A few suggestions on what hypoallergenic food to buy would be helpful.
