“May I help you with that?” If a Korat could speak, that’s probably one of the first things it would ask you. Question No. 2? “What game shall we play next?” The Korat loves nothing more than to assist its owner in just about anything, then blow off steam from a tough day’s work by playing intently.
“They have two speeds: running around the house playing or Velcro-kitty mode,” says Cheryl Coleman, a Maryland-based breeder and current Korat breed council secretary for the Cat Fanciers’ Association. “They aren’t necessarily lap cats but they want to be with you, near you and assist you in any way they can. If I’m doing things around the house, they will follow and help me: attacking brooms, taking the dust cloth. Any time to them is playtime — especially if you play, too.”
Jean Robinson, a breeder in Virginia, says, “It needs to be a member of the family. But, people need to understand the nature of the Korat. It’s going to be jumping. It’s going to be doing things.”
Korats go after life with gusto, and that excitement translates into a happy, active, curious cat that thrives on companionship.
