I can't go anywhere without people telling me about their pets. I mean anywhere. During production of this issue, I was summoned for jury duty. When my number was called from the jury pool, the first question the judge asked me was what I do for a living.
"I'm the editor of CAT FANCY magazine and, yes, that's a magazine about cats," I answered and the entire courtroom erupted in laughter. I confessed that I was a little nervous about meeting my deadline while serving on a jury, but said I probably could make it work by doing my editing in the evenings and on the weekend. I ended up as one of the alternates on a criminal case.
When you spend time with 13 people and you cannot talk about things you're hearing in the courtroom, what do you talk about? Well, if you're the editor of CAT FANCY, and they know about it, pets, of course.
