Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is now home — temporarily — to 145 cats and 150 dogs rescued from the war-torn streets of Beirut. The Lebanese cats and dogs arrived at the shelter in Southern Utah earlier this week, through the efforts of Best Friends and Beirut for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (BETA).
The Lebanese cats live in two large yurts, which are teepee-like tents, erected in a horse pasture at the animal shelter. The cats settled into their temporary residence quickly, according to shelter staff, and now spend their days purring, eating and snoozing. The dogs live in groups of two or three in large, spacious fenced dog runs.
Dori and Maria, pictured here, are just two of the Lebanese cats now living comfortably at the shelter, waiting to go to new homes. Offers to adopt the rescued animals keep coming from all over the United States, according to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. People interested in adopting one of the rescued cats or dogs can fill out an adoption application at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary website.
