Thirty-five felines were left homeless when their owner was evicted.
The Honolulu-based no-kill shelter Animal CARE Foundation is looking for people to care for 35 cats who were left homeless recently when their owner was evicted from a housing unit.
The foundation says it doesn’t have enough space for the felines and seeks foster homes for the cats, many of whom are in poor condition or malnourished. Foster owners would be able to possibly adopt cats at a later time.
The foundation also says it needs supplies for the nearly three-dozen cats, all of whom are lice-infested and are expected to need 30 days of proper medical attention, particularly one with a broken leg.
According to Animal CARE Foundation chief veterinarian Sabina De Giacomo, the cats’ previous owner tried to care for them but eventually became overwhelmed and was evicted about 10 days ago because of unsanitary conditions in her rental unit.
De Giacomo said the cats had been inadequately fed by their previous owner and some are now on liquid diets. Some need better nutrition and some are fighting parasites, she said.
