Rational Animal and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) will present the 4th Annual Gingerbread Homes for Animals Dec. 8-17 at Chelsea Market in New York City. The event invites New York’s world-class pastry chefs to create original, animal-themed gingerbread houses to increase awareness about the city’s homeless animal population. The gingerbread creations will be up for bid through silent auction, with proceeds benefiting The Picasso Veterinary Fund, dedicated to providing medical care for New York City’s homeless animals, and Rational Animal.

The public is invited to view the gingerbread houses at Chelsea Market Dec. 8-17, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. The event is free. At the opening ceremony from 1 to 2 p.m. on Dec. 8, visitors can meet the chefs and listen to music from special guest Nellie McKay.

Restaurants and establishments participating in this year’s event include Basserie 8 ½, Cake Man Raven, the Chocolate Moose, Country Restaurant, davidburke & donatella, Dona, Food Cult, The French Culinary Institute, Jumeirah Essex House, Lodge, One Tough Cookie, PastryScoop.com, Patiesserie Colson, Peanut Butter & Co., Pieces of Cake, Tompkins Square Bakery, Tumbador Chocolate, and The Water Club.
