A no-kill animal shelter is looking for a new home because its current facility is being sold.
The Animal Protection Association has been at its current headquarters, a house in Jefferson, Ind., rent-free for more than seven years, according to the shelter. But that’s about to come to a halt because the home’s owner died in October and the building’s now up for sale.
Linda Hughes, the Animal Protection Association’s vice president, said the hope is that a benefactor might donate the building to the association, because the rescue group doesn’t have funds to
do so.
In the meantime, the shelter’s preparing for the worst and looking for potential new locations. It’s also stepping up efforts to find homes for the current feline residents by temporarily reducing its adoption fee for cats from $60 to $30.
As of Dec. 28, the association said it had 24 cats in its main shelter, plus more than 17 cats at two smaller buildings it operates in neighboring areas.
