Free Spay and Neuter Surgeries

Free Spay/Neuter Surgeries Offered

For one day, service is free for Calaveras County, Calif., pet owners who need financial aid.

On Tues., Feb. 27, veterinarians in Calaveras County, Calif., will provide a limited number of free spay and neuter surgeries to cats and dogs as a part of Spay Day USA 2007, a national campaign to promote spay and neuter surgeries as a simple and effective way to end euthanasia among homeless pets.

An estimated three to four million homeless cats and dogs are euthanized each year in the United States. Each year an unspayed cat can give birth to 18 kittens, according to the Calaveras
Humane Society.

According to animal health professionals, altered animals tend to be healthier and have fewer behavioral problems. Also, they don’t contribute to the overpopulation problem, so fewer animals become homeless, enter shelters or live on the streets.

The free spay and neuter surgeries on Feb. 27 are available only to Calaveras County residents who can show they need
financial assistance.

Appointments are limited. Participating veterinarians can be contacted directly:

  • Angels Camp Veterinary Hospital, (209) 736-0488

  • Arnold Pet Clinic, (209) 795-4471

  • Calaveras Veterinary Hospital, (209) 754-5123

  • Mother Lode Veterinary Hospital, (209) 728-3423

  • Valley Springs Pet Hospital, (209) 772-9525

  • Valley Springs Veterinary Clinic, (209) 772-1283

I think this is maybe one of the smartest ideas someone has come up with in a long time, it a shame to see how many cats are put down because they are not wanted any more and the cat population is outragous i truley believe that if the free spay was offered everywhere it would control the population tremendesly, do you know if phoenix arizona offers free spay?
