To better serve the residents of Boulder Valley, Colo., the Humane Society of Boulder Valley began construction on a second floor. The new space, which will be completed in March 2007, will house the shelter’s Training and Behavior Center, bringing all training and behavioral rehabilitation programs on-site.
By adding the new space, the shelter hopes to reduce the euthanasia of animals with behavior issues. Providing behavior rehabilitation for scared and abused cats and dogs will make them more adoptable, said the Humane Society of Boulder Valley. The new space also will provide an area for training programs where area pet owners, staff members and volunteers can enhance their animal care and training skills.
The shelter’s current behavior and training programs have been successful, and the Humane Society will expand these programs upon completion of the second floor. Past programs helped prevent the relinquishment of cats and dogs because of behavior issues.
