In cooperation with four area animal welfare groups, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) launched its Mission: Orange campaign in Tampa, Fla., this week. The effort seeks to create “humane communities” throughout the United States and reduce the euthanasia of adoptable cats and dogs.

The Mission: Orange campaign pairs community organizations with the ASPCA’s experienced staff to implement innovative programs that aim to reduce the number of animals entering shelters and place more homeless cats and dogs in good homes. Shelters participating in the campaign in the Tampa area include:

  • Hillsborough County Animal Services

  • The Humane Society of Tampa Bay

  • Animal Coalition of Tampa

  • No More Homeless Pets

Programs scheduled for these shelters include behavior assessments of shelter animals and the expansion of existing spay and neuter services. The veterinarian community in Tampa also has offered to help local animal shelters with disaster relief programs.

Tampa is the latest city to join the Mission: Orange campaign. Other cities include Gulfport-Biloxi, Miss.; Philadelphia; and Austin, Texas. For more information about Mission: Orange, visit the
ASPCA’s website

This is certainly a great idea and a good start. Every little bit helps and before you know it, there is a lot of help for these poor homeless animals.
