Spay Day USA

Spay Day USA is Feb. 27

Animal shelters across the United States encourage pet owners to have their cats and dogs spayed and neutered.

Spay Day USA, which is Tuesday, Feb. 27, sends a message to pet owners worldwide: Please spay or neuter your pet. Founded in 1995 by the Doris Day Animal League, the day is meant to draw attention to the pet overpopulation problem and highlight one of the best ways to prevent it: spay and/or neuter cats and dogs.

Since the event’s inception, more than one million companion animals have been spayed and neutered. Last year, 140,000 pets received these surgeries because of Spay Day USA. With more than 400 events happening throughout the month of February, Spay Day USA organizers hope to spay or neuter more than 70,000 animals.

In collaboration with PETS 911, The Humane Society of the United States coordinates Spay Day USA. Local animal shelters, veterinary clinics, humane organizations and volunteers will offer low-cost spay and neuter surgeries. In addition, mobile spay and neuter clinics will hold special events to raise awareness about the importance of
these surgeries.
