The Richmond Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), a no-kill, non-profit shelter in Virginia, is providing free spay and neuter surgeries to pet cats within its service area through March 31, 2007.
Cat owners living in the cities of Richmond, Hanover, Henrico, Chesterfield and Goochland who own a cat are eligible to receive the free procedures — including a rabies vaccination — regardless of household income.
The promotion was designed to ease cat overpopulation during the spring breeding season. By providing the services for free, the SPCA says, it hopes to prevent the births of numerous orphaned kittens.
In addition to free surgeries for pets of qualified owners, spay and neuter services are available for $20 to $50. For more information, call the Richmond SPCA’s Spay/Neuter Helpline at (804) 521-1300.
