Art patrons and pet owners can satisfy their love for art and animals by purchasing animal-themed artwork from the M.J. Higgins Gallery benefit that runs from Jan. 20 to Feb. 10. A percentage of the proceeds during this showing will benefit Best Friends Animal Society based in Utah. One of the featured artists is Cyrus Mejia, Best Friends’ artist in residence.

Mejia, one of the founders of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, is a contemporary artist whose favorite subjects are the animals and the earth. Mejia says that he prefers to use “emotional colors, spontaneous lines and layers of paint that influence each other,” among other elements he strives to bring into balance in a painting.

Other artists featured at the animal-themed art fundraiser include Frank Bruynbroek, Emmeric James Konrad, Margaret von Biesen, John Fleenor, Suzi Moon, Andee Nathanson, Nicole Bruckman, Rick Mendoza, Dafne Nesti, Rebecca Lynne Loza, Michelle Chin and Alex in Welderland. The M.J. Higgins Gallery is located at 244 S. Main St., Los Angeles, CA 90012; hours are Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, noon to 6 p.m.

For more information on the show, visit the M.J. Higgins website.
