Do you know someone who devotes his or her time and resources to help animals? Animal Planet and Fresh Step Litter invite you to nominate an “unsung hero” for the Animal Planet 2007 Hero of the Year award. Last year’s winner of the first Hero of the Year award was Mona Rutger, owner and operator of Back to the Wild, a volunteer wildlife rehabilitation education center in Ohio.
Nominations for this year’s contest can be made at the Animal Planet website until July 14, 2007. The nomination form asks for a 250-word statement that includes a description of the animal-related cause that the nominee supports and the activities that show the nominee’s commitment to that cause.
A judging panel will review the nominations and select 10 finalists. From Sept. 25 until Oct. 8, the public can vote for their favorite finalist at the Animal Planet website. The grand prize winner will receive a $10,000 donation to his or her favorite animal welfare organization and a trip for two to Hawaii.
In addition, one winner in the Cat category will win the Cat Hero Award sponsored by Fresh Step Litter. This person will receive a $5,000 donation to the animal welfare organization of his or her choice.
