The ASPCA seeks to honor the heroic efforts of pets and people through its annual Humane Awards program. |
Do you know a cat that brings comfort to people through therapy animal work? Does your neighbor’s child work tirelessly to benefit homeless cats and dogs? Nominate a deserving animal or person to be recognized by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals through its annual Humane Awards program.
Categories open for nominations include:
- ASPCA Cat of the Year, which recognizes a cat that has performed a heroic act in the past year.
- ASPCA Dog of the Year, honoring a dog that has performed a heroic act.
- ASPCA Kid of the Year, for a child under the age of 14 who has rescued an animal or helps make the world a kinder place for animals.
- ASPCA Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, which rewards a member of the municipal police force (or other public service officer) who has made a heroic effort to save an animal.
- ASPCA Fireman of the Year, which honors a municipal firefighter who has made a heroic effort to save an animal.
Nominations can be submitted through the ASPCA website, and should include the nominee’s name and contact information, the category in which he or she is being nominated, and a 75-word or less statement about why the person or animal deserves the award. Nominations will be accepted until Aug. 15, 2007.
Winners will be chosen by a committee selected by the ASPCA, and will be recognized at a special Humane Awards Luncheon in New York City on Nov. 1.
“The Humane Awards Luncheon is our way of recognizing the important role animals play in our lives, the significance of the human-animal bond, and the people who make animal welfare a central part of their lives,” said Ed Sayres, ASPCA president and CEO.
