Local Harley-Davidson dealers and motorcycle-riding pet lovers from four states will participate in the second annual Bikers for Best Friends Pet Adoption and Poker Run on Saturday, Sept. 22. The fund-raising ride will begin at Harley-Davidson dealers in New Rochelle, N.Y., Scottsdale, Ariz., Frederick, Colo., and Washington City, Utah.
Registration fees and pledges earned from the event will go to local rescue groups in the participating cities. Those rescue groups will be on hand during the day of the event, bringing adoptable cats and dogs to the dealerships. The event will include lunch for the riders, as well as entertainment at each participating Harley-Davidson dealer.
“We had around 80 riders in the first event, and we hope to surpass 100 this year,” said Alan Blackburn, owner of Zion Harley-Davidson in Washington City, Utah, which hosted last year’s event. “Bikers in our area have adopted Best Friends as one of their favorite charities, and we expect another large turnout this year.”
Riders who register and pay the $25 registration fee before Sept. 15 will receive a free event T-shirt. Participants are encouraged to collect pledges, and the person who raises the most in donations will receive a year’s supply of Natural Balance dog or cat food.
