Firefighters in Chesapeake, Va., are crediting Orion the cat with tough survival skills after the cat survived a house fire, the Daily Press reports. Firefighters spent nearly two hours searching the home for the cat after dousing the flames, and were beginning to fear the worst, when the cat emerged from his hiding place and leaped onto a couch.
“This has to be the toughest cat I have ever come across, or the smartest,” Capt. Steve Johnson of the Chesapeake Fire Department told the Daily Press. “We don’t know where he hid, but it was obviously effective.”
Orion was coughing when he was found, so firefighters gave him oxygen through a pet oxygen mask donated to the fire department by the Chesapeake Humane Society. All the human occupants of the home are safe, having been accounted for shortly after the fire department arrived at the scene.
