| Andy Warhol’s cat-themed art will be on display until May 4. |
Photographs, paintings, screen prints and drawings of Andy Warhol’s beloved pets will be on display at the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, Pa., until May 4, 2008. “Canis Major: Warhol’s Dogs and Cats (and other party animals)” will highlight the art Warhol created of his many lifetime pets, including his childhood dog Lucy and the many Siamese cats he owned throughout his life.
Other animals featured in the exhibit include Warhol’s dachshunds, Amos and Andy, and Black Lace and White Pussy, the two cats that lived at his art studio, the Silver Factory. Visitors to the exhibit also can view Warhol’s various paintings of horses, monkeys, parrots and fish.
In conjunction with the exhibit, the Andy Warhol Museum will partner with Animal Friends to help homeless pets. Portraits of a dog, cat and bunny, each needing a new home, will be on display during the exhibit. The paintings, created in Warhol’s signature style, will be donated to Animal Friends after the exhibit. Visitors to the museum can print out portraits of these pets on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 to 4 p.m. through May 4.
