Animal shelters often face a difficult task placing cats in good homes. The San Diego Humane Society, confronted with an abundance of cats this winter, set a goal of placing 100 adoptable cats in good homes by the end of 2007. As of Dec. 20, the shelter was just four cats shy of this achievement.
The Feline Festivus, as the shelter is calling the adopt-a-thon, has placed 48 kittens and 48 adult cats in new homes. Shelter employees hope to find homes for at least four more before Dec. 31, 2007. To encourage adoptions, the San Diego Humane Society offers potential pet owners these “buddy adoption” incentives:
- The adoption fee for a second cat will be waived for all first-time adopters who adopt one cat at the standard adoption fee of $100.
- Pet owners who adopted a cat from the shelter earlier in 2007 also qualify for the waived fee when they come back to adopt a second cat.
