Dozens of Cats Found in Trailer

A local humane society asks for help placing the cats in homes.

A humane society in Mercer County, Pa., is seeking help to find homes for nearly 100 live cats found in a house trailer in Salem Township.

The live cats, along with some dead ones, were discovered April 26. Officials said both of the trailer’s human residents recently had been hospitalized for months and were unable to care for the cats.

According to officials, a woman living in the house told humane society workers that the cats reproduced throughout the years, and she didn’t have the money to spay or neuter them, only to feed them.

State troopers came to the house after neighbors reported a foul odor.

For information on adopting any of the cats, call the Humane Society of Mercer County at (724) 981-5445 or email the humane society.

I hope these cats will be able to be saved and adopted. Alot of times this many cats in one place are not social enough to be adopted, and they are PTS. This is just another example of how we need more low cost spay/neuter programs. I imagine those people were probably spending as much on cat food in the end as they could have spent in the beginning on spaying.

This sort of thing happens all of the time (maybe not that many animals), even though there are programs to help low income families alter/medicate their animals. Problem is that these people don't have a program near them or they are not informed of the services offered. Having over 100 animals in one residence will cause a health issue for the humans (maybe why they were hospitilized). For anybody who reads this comment; If you know of someone who could use the assistance ~ you do the research and find help for them, it really isn't hard and in the end YOU will feel GOOD that you helped humans and animals alike.
