| Sinbad checks out a pile of gifts at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. |
Loverboy the cat received a new cat bed and personalized pillow. Firebug the horse received horse biscuits. Travis the dog enjoyed a new squeaky toy. All the resident animals at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, located in Utah, from cats to potbellied pigs to rabbits, benefited from the holiday generosity of animal lovers all over the United States. Thousands of people sent gifts to the animals this holiday season.
“We had a wonderful time passing out all the wonderful gifts our friends sent for the cats,” Marilyn Spangler, a caregiver in the cat building at Best Friends, said. “We could not be more grateful for your generosity.”
Best Friends received enough cat beds to place a new one in every room in every building, Spangler said. Each cat received at least one toy, if not two. And with the amount of treats received, each cat may enjoy an entire package by itself (over time, of course).
On Christmas Day, volunteers arrived at the sanctuary to help employees pass out gifts to the animals. Sinbad the cat watched with interest at the gifts were separated into piles at Cat Headquarters.
Best Friends staff said the outpouring of gifts and donations is one of the most generous they’ve seen. “Thank you, everyone, for making this a most Merry Christmas for the cats [and other animals] here at Best Friends,” Spangler said. “We wish you love, peace and harmony in the New Year.”
