Showing support for a nonprofit animal rescue organization, 12 celebrities and professional athletes posed with cats and dogs, and their images were compiled into a 2008 calendar.
The Tony La Russa’s Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) 2008 calendar features actresses Alyssa Milano and Nicolette Sheridan, musicians Wynonna Judd and Carlos Santana as well as Miami Heat basketball player Dwayne Wade and San Francisco Giants pitcher Barry Zito among other famous faces.
Calendars are available online for a $15 donation at ARF's website and will be available at Target stores nationwide at the end of October. Proceeds benefit the cats and dogs that have been rescued – either abandoned, homeless or those who have run out of time at shelters. ARF provides care and spay or neuter surgery until the animals are placed into new homes.
Tony La Russa is the manager of the St. Louis Cardinals and co-founded ARF with his wife, Elaine, in 1990.
