Comics Compete With Pet-Themed Jokes

Even your cat may laugh at the pet-themed jokes told by comedians in the Purina Pet Comedy Challenge.

Who tells the funniest pet-themed jokes? Since February, comics throughout America have been competing in the Purina Pet Comedy Challenge to see if it might be one of them. Comedy clubs in Dallas, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Denver hosted live comedy nights to let the comics show their stuff.

Each comedian delivered a five- to seven-minute routine of family friendly, pet-themed jokes. A panel of judges, which included a talent scout for the “Late Show with David Letterman,” selected the first through fourth place winners at each club. The first and second place winners received cash prizes and automatically moved on to the finals, to be held in St. Louis on May 2.

Now, the third and fourth place winners from each club are competing online — and Purina needs the public to vote for their favorites. Through April 22, visitors to Purina’s consumer website can watch the routines of the eight online finalists and vote for their favorites. The two comedians that receive the most votes will earn the right to participate in the final live stand-up session on May 2. The winner of the final live competition will receive $10,000.
