Bring a can of cat or dog food to the Sioux City (Iowa) Community Theatre on Jan. 17, and you can see “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” for free. The special “Cats for Cans” production of the play will benefit the Siouxland Humane Society, the Sioux City Journal reports.
“The actors and crew thought with ‘cat’ in the show’s title, it would be fun to present a show to benefit the humane society,” Amy Niles, executive director of the theater, told the Journal. “Instead of having a ticket, the cast suggested a can could be the price of admission.”
The special presentation of the play will be held Thursday, Jan. 17, at 7:30 p.m. The theater is located at 1401 Riverside Blvd. in Sioux City. The theater will accept any items that will help the humane society. Jerry Dominicak, humane society director, said the shelter needs cleaning supplies, paper and cloth towels, canned cat or dog food, and small cat and dog toys. Cash donations also will be accepted.
“It’s such a unique tie-in — the name of the show and supporting a worthy cause like ours,” Dominicak said. “Plus, it’s an opportunity to have two organizations work together that typically don’t have that chance.”
