John Goodman lends his acting talents to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Animal Rescue Foundation by starring in a new public service announcement, the ASPCA said. The spot reminds pet owners that with hurricane season approaching, now is the time to make sure they have disaster readiness plans in place that include the family pet.

“We hope this PSA will motivate viewers to learn more about ways they can prepare for a disaster—and make sure their families, human and pets alike, remain safe in the event of one,” said Ed Sayres, ASPCA president and CEO. “Disasters can take you by surprise and change your entire life—and that of your pets—in just seconds. Having an emergency plan in place can make all the difference.”

To that end, the ASPCA offers these emergency preparedness tips:

  • Place a “rescue alert” sticker near your front door, alerting rescue workers that pets live in the home.
  • Make plans ahead of time for a “safe haven” for your pets in case you must evacuate your home. Don’t leave your pets behind when evacuating.
  • Prepare emergency supplies and traveling kits for your pets, and make sure everyone in the family knows where they are kept. Make sure your family knows the evacuation plan in case of a crisis.
  • Designate a friend or neighbor who can care for your pet in case you are unable to reach home during a disaster.

Very important information - don't ever leave pets behind, even if you think you will only be gone a short time - things can change rapidly!

the rich movie and tv stars need to give time and some of their money to animals and other charities..instead of wasting it on over priced material things...
