MSCPA Cat Adoption

30 Newly Homeless Cats Up for Adoption

Branch of the Massachusetts SPCA seeks homes for these healthy, well-behaved felines.

The Nevins Farm branch of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is looking for homes for 30 cats newly-arrived at the shelter after being surrendered by their owner.

The cats are all healthy, well-behaved and socialized, according to MSPCA project coordinator Jill O’Connell. The 12 females and 18 males seized range in age from 5 months to 2 years, except for one that’s about 5 or 6, O’Connell said.

The owner started with only two cats three years ago, but the unspayed and unneutered animals began to multiply, according to the MSPCA. Although the police took 30 cats, the owner, who wasn’t charged with a crime, was allowed to keep another six.

MSPCA police became involved after receiving a tip from someone who complained about a man living with at least three dozen cats, according to Officer Lesley Hampson of the MSPCA law enforcement division.

The complaint was investigated and the unidentified man agreed to let the cats be taken to the shelter on Feb. 28.

The cats are now available for adoption. For more information on adopting one, visit The MSPCA website or call (978) 687-7453.
