The Central New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has been overwhelmed since October 2006 when 180 cats — many with health problems — were rescued from a home.
To help alleviate the high influx of rescued cats, the cost to adopt a cat is $20 during the month of March. All the animals have been spayed or neutered, microchipped and have had their shots.
In addition to homes for the cats, the SPCA also says it needs bedding, litter, cat food and monetary donations.
It costs about $10 a day to care for each cat, according to the shelter. So at one point, the SPCA was spending $3,000 to $4,000 every day on care alone, it says.
