As President Bush spoke with Colombian President Alvaro Uribe about trade and the war on drugs last weekend, first lady Laura Bush went to a library in Bogota’s old town and read to a group of Colombian children. Bush, a former librarian and teacher, read
Kitten’s First Full Moon, by Kevin Henkes, which she called one of her favorite books.
A group of 16 children from a school in Bogota’s outskirts listened as Bush told the story of a hungry cat that confuses the full moon with a bowl of milk. The special reading took place at the Rafael Pombo foundation, a reading center named for a 19th century author.
After reading the book, Bush gave the children books and postcards of her black cat, Willie.
