Last October, Best Friends Animal Society worked with Beirut for the Ethical Treatment of Animals to bring 300 cats and dogs from Lebanon to the United States. Since then, nearly all the animals have gone to live in permanent homes. Now Best Friends hopes to adopt out the six cats and 29 dogs that remain.
The Lebanese cats still waiting for new homes include Raed, a male black-and-white longhair found near death in the streets of Beirut. Best Friends staff members say that Raed loves people and to play. Raed responds to petting by kneading his paws and giving “kisses.”
Another cat waiting to be placed is Syrus, a brown-and-white tabby female. Best Friends staff members say Syrus is sweet and affectionate. Syrus has come a long way since being left at a Beirut veterinary clinic as a tiny kitten, staff members say.
