Feral Cats

Feral Cats Need You

Alley Cat Allies invites cat lovers to participate in National Feral Cat Day, Oct. 16.

Participate in National Feral Cat Day by putting up posters, such as this one. Illustration courtesy of Alley Cat Allies.Alley Cat Allies, a national advocate for non-lethal feline population control, strives to educate individuals, animal organizations and communities about the trap, spay/neuter and return method of reducing feral cat populations. The organization has designated Oct. 16 as National Feral Cat Day to help draw attention to the lives and welfare of feral cats in the United States.

Cat lovers can participate in this important cause in several ways. Alley Cat Allies has set up a website that describes the event and lists steps animal lovers can take to spread the word about feral cats and humane ways to control their population. Activities include:

Handing out brochures to people involved in animal care, such as veterinarians, animal control officers and shelter workers.
Putting up posters in your community. When asking for permission to put up the poster, explain the significance of National Feral Cat Day.
Setting up a page about feral cats on your own website.
Putting an ad in your local newspaper.
Setting up a public information table at a local event, such as a pet adoption day.

Alley Cat Allies provides written materials, such as brochures and posters, at its website. For more information about the event or to download materials, visit the website.
