Pet Loss

Coping With Pet Loss

The Frederick County Humane Society of Maryland offers pet bereavement sessions on Oct. 18, to help pet owners cope with grief.

Pet loss is never easy, and the resulting grief can deeply affect your life. To help pet owners who are grieving the loss of a pet, the Frederick County Humane Society is offering a pet bereavement counseling session Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. The session will take place at the shelter offices in Frederick, Md., near Route 85.

During the session, pet owners will have a chance to talk with professional counselors in small groups. Counselors will be prepared to discuss the stages of grief and help pet owners talk about the feelings they might experience during the grieving process. Pet owners may participate as much or as little as they wish, based on their comfort level.

In addition, the sessions are open to owners who may be facing difficult decisions regarding their aging or ill pets’ health. For more information about the pet bereavement sessions or for directions to the shelter, visit the Frederick County Humane Society website.

I lost my beloved cat because I do not own a car and NOBODY in my subdivision would help me get him to the vet(less then 2 miles away).

losing a cat that you have had since a kitten is very hard. I had my cat for 11 yrs. and he was almost like a person ,he was the friendliest cat and loved people. I will miss him dearly. People have told me that getting a kitten is the best thing to do but I cannot not now.
