Lion Documentary Receives Award

Relentless Enemies: “Lions and Buffalo” is honored at the Wildscreen International Wildlife and Environmental Film Festival.

Photo credit: Beverly and Dereck JoubertDereck and Beverly Joubert, noted wildlife film makers, received an award for their film “Relentless Enemies: Lions and Buffalo” at the Wildscreen International Wildlife and Environmental Film Festival, Oct. 19. The Best Sound Award recognized the couple’s accomplished and imaginative use of sound in a film, citing excellence in composition and construction of the soundtrack.

The film, “Relentless Enemies,” examines the lives of lions and buffalo living on the Okavango River Delta in Botswana, at the northern edge of the Kalahari Desert. The film shows how the Tsaro pride of lions have adapted their hunting skills to survive on the delta, with males joining in the hunt and females learning to stalk prey through water. It also highlights how the buffalo have learned to fight back. The film originally aired on the National Geographic Channel.

The Wildscreen Festival, founded in 1982 by Sir Peter Scott, aims to recognize excellence in the production of films and photography of the natural world. The festival is held bi-annually in the United Kingdom and attracts entries from filmmakers all over the world. For more information about the Wildscreen Festival and other winning films, visit the organization’s website.
