The second annual Tennessee Week for the Animals celebrated pet education and spirituality themes from Sept. 23 to Oct. 1, with dozens of special events throughout the state emphasizing pets’ value. The week kicked off with a special proclamation by Tennessee Governor Phil Bresden and continued with family-oriented activities from Memphis to Nashville.
Highlights of the week included:
- Adoption events in Memphis, Nashville, Johnson City, Columbia, Oak Ridge, Chattanooga and Knoxville
- The proclamation of Sept. 23 as Memphis Animal Appreciation Day
- A cattery beautification project at the Chattanooga Humane Educational Society
- The grand opening of a new spay and neuter clinic in Chattanooga
- The debut of the Critter Coach, a mobile adoption facility that will make monthly visits to libraries in the Memphis area to increase awareness and encourage pet adoptions
- Discounted adoption fees at animal shelters in Nashville that resulted in many pet adoptions
