Homeless animals in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota are now getting a big helping hand for feedings.
The Bloomington, Minn., Festival Foods location is conducting a pilot program with the Minnesota Valley Humane Society to encourage customers to donate food to the animal shelter.
Shoppers at the Bloomington Festival Foods may purchase $5 pre-packaged grocery bags of supplies for animals. The supplies will then be donated to the Minnesota Valley Humane Society in Burnsville.
“We’re seeing this as the beginning of a great service for homeless animals. We’ve run food shelves for humans for a long time, and it seemed only natural to support our four-legged friends as well,” Festival Foods Director of Operations Tom Clasen said in a prepared statement.
The Bloomington program is a six-week trial, Clasen said. Festival Foods’ spokespeople say the company hopes to engage animal shelters for similar programs in areas near its other Twin Cities locations.
