Animal rescue organizations submitted pet rescue stories in the Purina Pro Plan Rally to Rescue “Doing More for Pets” contest. |
A panel of judges, including actress Emily Procter of “CSI: Miami,” have selected 10 finalists in the Purina Pro Plan Rally to Rescue “Doing More for Pets” rescue story contest. Pet rescue organizations were invited to submit essays about animals they have encountered through their rescue efforts. More than 100 pet rescue stories were submitted from organizations across the country.
Winning stories feature the following pets:
- Max, a cat left out with the trash that was forced to fend for himself. Max now works as a therapy cat.
- Indy, who was thrown out of a car at a truck stop. This dog now gives love and kindness to three children with developmental disabilities.
- Rummy, who came to a rescue facility blind, bald and infected with heartworms. He now enjoys performing dog tricks.
- Cassie, a dog that suffered from epilepsy and other health problems.
- Biscuit came to animal control covered with urine and ticks. The family that helped nurse this dog back to health adopted her.
- Sebastian was abandoned by a backyard breeder. He now serves as a mascot for Stepping Stone German Shepard Rescue.
- Hans, a dog suffering from multiple cuts and sores around his face and head. Now fully recovered, he lives with a loving family.
- Nova was found injured and bleeding after being dragged behind a truck. This dog provides much joy for her new family.
- Bandit’s former owners wanted to euthanize him after he was involved in a car accident. He now lives with a family that raises horses and sled dogs.
- Susie lived as a hunting dog and was almost shot by her owner. After being rescued, she now participates in AKC competitions in standard novice agility.
From now until September 30, 2007, pet lovers can visit the Rally to Rescue website to read each animal’s rescue story and vote for their favorite. The finalist with the most votes will be announced by Emily Procter in October. The winning pet rescue organization will receive $5,000 in Purina Pro Plan pet food.
