Last night, Doane Pet Care recalled a single lot of 55-pound “bonus” bags of Wal-Mart’s Ol’ Roy dry dog food after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found the product contaminated with salmonella, a bacteria that can cause diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps in humans and pets.
The recalled dog food bears the following code and information:

The recalled dog food was produced at one facility in Manassas and distributed solely to 69 Wal-Mart stores, in Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia (40 stores affected) and West Virginia via two distribution centers in Virginia, the company said in a statement. A full listing of the stores that received the potentially contaminated product can be found here, but the product UPC was blocked from sale at all locations as part of the recall.
Anyone who has purchased the recalled product should stop feeding it to pets immediately, and return the empty bag to the store for a full refund, the company said. Recalled dog foods should be disposed of in a manner so that no other person or animal comes in contact with it, Doane Pet Care said. Independent testing of duplicated product samples did not show salmonella, nor have any illnesses at its plants or elsewhere been reported, the company said.
