well we have a rainy start to the day here in georgia, but not as cold as yesterday morning. momma said 5 am was just too early this morning so she just went back to sleep till 6

Okay here we go with more of the good mountain recepies
Corn cakes

2 cups corn meal 2 tablespoon baking powder
1 kitchen spoon of flour 1 tablespoon melted butter or lard
2 eggs milk
1 teaspoon salt

beat eggs, add meal, flour, salt, baking powder, and butter. Add enough milk to make a thin batter. Pour out onto a hot griddle and flip when brown. Good with butter and syrup.

Molasses sweet bread

Sift together 2 cups flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon baking soda, 2 teaspoons of ginger and one of cinnamon. Add 1/3 cup melted butter, 1 cup molasses or sorgham syrup, ¾ cup buttermilk, and one egg. Mix well pour into a loaf pan and bake at 350 for bout 50 minutes

Apple beer

Peel ur apples and dry the peelings in the sun or by the stove. Put them in a crock and add enough boiling water to cover them. Cover the crock and let it sit for one or two days until all the flavor comes out of the peelings. U may add sugar if u want.

Muscadine wine

½ bushel muscadine grapes. 12 ½ lbs sugar
mash the grapes with ur hands, put them in a large churn, and add 2 ½ lb sugar. Let it work or ferment for a week until it quits. Strain the mixture to get out the grape skins and impurities. Put back in the churn and 10 lbs more of sugar. Let it work or ferment, 8 to 10 days until it quits. Makes bout 4 gallons
