Callie said, “No, they did fine. Dad fed them everyday at the same time and they didn’t even get nervous when he came out to give them food and water.”
“That’s good”, Maggie said.
Callie asked, “Where is everyone else?”
“Well, Let’s see”, Maggie said, “Pete is downstairs with Thundie and Shaddie watching some new Bruce Willis movie. I’m pretty sure that raven and Ms. Murphy are still upstairs. Raven is a little down because Charlie’s mom is offline for a while, their doing some house projects and she misses hearing from him. He sent her a nice blog. But she still feels lonely. She’s blogging for him, but it’s not the same for her.”
Callie shook her head, “I’m sorry, but it’s not like they broke up or something. Charlie loves her and they’ll be together again.”
“True enough, sweetie, now, go out and tell your brother that we have some great appetizers and a nice Merlot that he and Talley could share if he can spare a moment. Then, you and I can set the table. Look at the pretty Chrysanthemum bouquet we got for a centerpiece.
Whiskers came inside and he and Talley prepared a plate of Maggie’s baked appetizers; cheese, tuna and chicken in puffed pastry and some sweet & spicy dipping sauces. Talley opened the wine and they placed the treats on the serving counter that separated the family room from the kitchen. They both pulled out stools and sat where they could watch Maggie and Callie preparing the food to be served. Maggie took a tray of salmon en croute from the warming oven each was single serving of Wild Alaskan Salmon, in a bed of spinach and Boursin cheese, wrapped in a delicate pastry shell. She placed this on the dining room side board and returned to the kitchen, Ms. Murphy and Raven had come downstairs and they were setting the table. Raven moved around the table filling water glasses and placing a wedge of lemon on the side of each glass. Ms. Murphy placed a champagne bucket on a stand by the chair at the head of the table. Into it, she put a chilled bottle Dom Perignon. Callie brought steamed asparagus and hollandaise sauce to the side board while Maggie brought in the crisp chilled hearts of palm & artichoke salad. Maggie looked around and nodded in satisfaction she went to the stairwell and called down, “Pete dinner is served, you and the boys come up. Don’t you dare make us wait!”
