This helped me figure out what type of litter is better.

I would never have thought about clay litter causing problems. I have thought about changing types of litter from time to time but I have one cat who is so picky I'd probably end up cleaning up the floor all the time. Thanks for the info, though.

How can I get my six year old male domestic to use litter? Years ago I began using newspaper because of the mess litter made on our hardwood floors. I have tried a few different brands but he refuses to use his litter box at all if there is "normal" litter in it. Needless to say once he uses it to urinate he won't use it a second time unless it has fresh newspaper. This is difficult when we are out of the house for several hours.

I have five cats as well. I recently switched to a natural pine litter and only one of my cats dislikes it.
