#6 Don't use perfumed litter.
We have an older cat who has scented litter in her box. She doesn't like the other types. We tried cautiously and gradually switching to unscented, and to more natural litter choices, but she refused to use them.
I believe that some cats, like people, have preferences other than the norm, no matter what studies show.
It was very frustrating for us, not to mention expensive, as we wanted her to have a more natural litter. In the end she is the one using the litter box, not us.

This article was very helpful! My first cat came to us litterbox trained, but our new kitten is not, so this article really came in handy. Good tips!

Good advice!!! All 3 of my cats came litter box trained...after a while I converted them to a recycled newspaper litter that seems to be much cleaner for them and me (no tracking) and also much better for the envoirnment!
