I had a great day yesterday! Mom has been leaving the door open in the boys room since me and Mazo are doing ok with each other now. Sometimes there may be a little tiff, but not much. So when mom came in, after she cleaned up for us, we got to play with catnip bubbles! If mom wasn't bowing them fast enough, we would all give her a look like "Come ON mom, hurry up!" Then she brought up some more toys. Really different ones that we had so it's something new. She also got the catnip mist and sprayed our condos and scratching posts. We were having so much fun! When mom left after about 15 minutes, she heard us fighting so she ran back upstairs. What she found were two drowned rats! That is what mom told us we looked like. Both Mazo and I were soaking wet!! She said it looked like we went swimming in our water bowls. Then, can you believe it??? She laughed at us! She decided to shut the door since there was too much "catnip" involved. MOL We did have a good time though......Jasper

Happy Friday to you! I am a very happy boy today. Mom says she will be spending the day with us, relaxing, reading, napping and watching videos. Is that not the best way to spend the day? She already warned us, tomorrow she will be going to the Farmers Market to find things for her garden and then she and auntie will be planting it. Mom usually does it herself but with her bandaged foot, it would take her forever so, she is accepting help. I will be supervising from the deck while Jinx and the kittens will be watching from the windows. It'll be nice. What an exciting morning so far! Mom came up into my room to get my son. He has to go to the vet and have his big boy surgery. He's 8 months old and really scared. He clawed up moms arm really bad when she was trying to put him in the carrier. He hissed and even bit mom, but she said that didn't hurt at all. No skin broken on the bite, just from the claws. Mom told him she know's he did not want to hurt mom, he was just so scared. He does not really like to be touched at all. Imagine that....... my son and not wanting to be touched???? Some people decided that they did not want him and he came back so scared. The people did not hurt him, mom knows that, they just were not home very much and decided that they should not have a cat. Mom can see why now, as he is a loner. Hopefully he will relax a little when he gets home. He is going to be one of the inside/outside kitties. He'll have a lot more space to run and play, he'll still have his warm safe bed, and fresh food and water. Mom hopes it makes him happy. Purrs, Jasper

Mom is finally letting me blog today. When I went to the vet last week, I was such a good boy. They were all telling me what a wonderful kitty I am. Wehn the nice vet had to listen to my heart, they had a really hard time because I was purring too much. They had to put alcohol on a cotton ball and hold it by my nose to get me to stop purring. They were all petting me and I felt like a king. Two of the people at the vet also told mom that if she ever wanted to get rid of me they would be more than happy to take me home. I was being so cute, purring, rolling around and even giving them head bonks! I weighed in at 10.13 pounds. My heart has not changed. That means it has not gotten any better, but it has not gotten any worse either. We are going to enjoy our warm sunny day today! Lick's and head bonks, Leo

Dad has been busy riding around Florida. Temps in the low 80's and 60's at night. He has a new bike and would rather ride it than clean cat boxes and hairballs.Latest news.Zippi knocked over the cat tree onto the glass top coffee table, enough said. Missy escaped from the sink and was found 2 hours later upside down in the driveway asleep. OG has been going out on the porch to get away from the constant chasing and hissing of Taz. Taz has been crawling on top of dad at nite and on the couch with him whenever Zippi chooses to get down. Our dad has built a newer, bigger, better cabinet and spends much time in the garage polishing it and his bike.Dad bought a fortune in flowers and spent all day planting. The yard is looking like a Homes Beautiful picture spread.Thats about it from sunny Florida. Sorry we arent on as much as we would like. Time is short and so is dad MOL. HELP!! Mom just told me I am going to the vet tomorrow night for a shot!! Is that punishment for what happened with Mazo? She says it is not because Leo is going in too, but I'm not sure. I'm usually very good when I go to the vet. I will be on my bestest behavior. The vet told mama it's a new shot that has a updated version to guard against a new strain of calisi virus. Mom will get that screen fixed now, and not leave to window open as far. That way, Jasper can't push me out again. Thanks for your concern about my safety. I am so glad to be home. All the prayers from all the cats on CC made all the difference in the world and gave mama some hope! I was pretty close to the house. How have you been? We are great here and the weather has improved. We enjoyed a beautiful day Friday and hope the weekend will be the same. Open windows, doors, and singing birdies. A huge fly got in and we were ran through the house trying to be the lucky one to catch it. Mom could be heard cheering us on, she hates when a fly get in the house. Said this was no fly, it was a flying hippo. We later walked in the bathroom to find it sitting in the inside of the water bowl, mom saw Pebbles holding her head over the bowl and upside down to get a better look at that hippo. *** URGENT *** My brother Mazo got out this morning!! Please pray for his safe return. Mazo got over to my side and, yes, I was picking on him. Well, We were by the window fighting and the screen pushed out and down he went. Our room is on the 2nd story. Mazo has never been outside, so we don't know what he is going to do. Mom came in to see us this morning and saw the pushed out screen and went running outside right away. She called and called, but no sign of Mazo. We live in the country - close to a small town - so there is no telling where he will go. He does have an ID chip. I may fight with him, but I do love my brother. ~Cats Don’t Like “Cat Smell”~
Can a cat get inside the litter box ... and still poop outside?

Yes, and if this has never happened to you, we have a video to prove it to you.

Take a look at this video of the cat inside the litter box ... and pooping outside. While you watch, keep an eye out for clues as to what went wrong. I will give you my thoughts after you watch the video.

OK, so what went wrong?

To me, this litter box looks a bit too small. Also, many cats don't prefer a hooded box. The hood can hold a lot of cat odors that deter cats.

Make sure the box you use is odor free and big enough for your cat.

Finally, hooded boxes may be aesthetically pleasing to us because we don't see their waste products, but they can trap smells, and they don't allow cats to see their environment or feel safe while they are going. Oftentimes, cat dislike using these hooded boxes, but companies marketing to cat owners often focus on the design instead of the more practical implications.

Cats Don't Like "Cat Smell"
BAD Kitty - You Caused a Stinky Mess!

I tried to help you deal with the problems of "inappropriate elimination" and bad litter box odor.
As promised, today I am following up with additional tips and suggestions, and I'll talk about a common problem that causes an extremely bad odor - Cat Spraying.
You know the routine...
Your cat backs up to a vertical surface with his tail lifted vertically, and he directs a small amount of urine in a fine spray from beneath his tail. The spray hits the surface approximately one to two feet from the ground. This activity is accompanied by an intense quivering movement of the tip of the tail, sometimes treading, and a look of intense concentration on your cat's face. This is spraying.
Spraying is not a litter box problem. It is a method of communication. It is how cats mark their territory. However, this is obviously inappropriate when done in the home (causing a stinky mess).
Intact males have the greatest motivation to mark because of their testosterone-driven territorial agendas, but neutered males and females may also spray.
If your cat is spraying, there are several things you can do:
• Have your veterinarian examine your cat to rule out the possibility of a medical problem.
• If your cat has not been neutered - have it done. This may solve the problem completely.
• Clean urine marks thoroughly with a special product designed to neutralize the odor. Avoid ammonia-based products, which smell like urine. The smell of urine or ammonia encourages the cat to spray on the same spot again.
• If your cat is in a stressful situation, try to identify and eliminate the cause of the stress.
• Use a commercial pheromone product such as Feliway® to discourage your pet from spraying.

Cats are funny and have many unique behaviors, but it is not so funny when they spray or do not use the litter box.

A PET’S 10 COMMANDMENTS FOR THEIR PEOPLE:

1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.
