How We Met

Nareau jumped into my car as I was getting ready for embalming lab. She had clearly had kittens and weaned them and she was emaciated, missing patches of fur and riddled with fleas. I put her down and told her no I could not take her home. It broke my heart but I was a broke college student. She jumped back into my lap and did the little Maine Coon twitter. I melted and told her if she was still outside the facility after my lab I would take her to the humane society. Well she was waiting for me when I got out. I took her home and bathed her and fed her and curled her up in a towel and held her all night long. In the morning, after numerous flee itchings, I noticed she had bled during the night, I thought she was in heat, not knowing female cats do not bleed while in heat. I called my friends who put me in touch with and amazing local organization in my college town and they told me to take her to the vet and get her evaluated and we would see from there. By this time it was quite clear to both Nareau and I that she was not going anywhere near the humane society even thought my apartment was strictly no pets. I would just find a way to keep her. So I rushed her to the vet where they informed me she would have to go into emergency surgery for post partem intestinal hemorraging. When I spoke with the organization about this they told me that if I promised to keep her as my own for the rest of her natural life, they would get her back to health at no cost to me. I was eccstatic! After the surgery, I was told that she had been bleeding for 8-10 weeks on and off and almost didn't even make it through the surgery. She is so amazing, and so wonderful. Even now she sits curled in my lap, forever interupting my typing and reading. I am thankful everyday that she found me.
