Very sorry to hear your Mom has not been feeling well. We will keep her in our prayers. Yes the Blackhawks are very lucky to have two goalies with excellent records. Sadly, your human has not played in about four games due to a groin injury. We sure hope he recovers quickly as I'm sure Marmalade will need a break soon. So far so good. Two wins no losses in the playoffs. Next game will be played in Minnesota. Hoping we go all the way to win the Scamper Cup again. well queen josiemae is taking time off the blog trail today so maybe we can get some done today.
the temp at my earth home this morning was 29 with snow flying and then for sunday is to be 64!!!!! georgia has had some crazy weather this winter.
it is very windy today so lets just stay in if u want and i can fix us some mousechili and we can watch movies or play games and have some good hot toddies later, and we can talk about what we can do to help queen josiemae decorate the maison de josiemae (castle) for st patrick's day.

Hows Momma feeling??? Pawrents get upset when we get sick because they worry and we tend to hide things until it's too late. A Mo certainly did that. And so did A Aria, she died very suddenly, we think because of a heart attack although the vet never found anything (he wasn't a great vet so Mom got a new one). Mom's having a great vacation! She's coming home tomorrow, and the home kitties are very excited (but cleaning up the mess that they caused, MOL). As Aria, Jes, Mo, and I will escort her plane home. We hung out with Mom while she's been gone, which has been really fun. Mom's feeling much more rested now, she needed it! angel ping and et have dropped a gopher in the crock pot for gopher stew and are gonna also fix soupy mouse gravy and catnip biscuits and want us angels to stay for supper and come on over now as it is a cold day and they have catpresso cocoa and a variety of hamster cookies for now. they said they will be off line for a few days as their momma has some kind of project going on

is a glum rainy day here in georgia today, but at least we still here to see it . is gonna be a cold one with the high only in the low 40's and rain till tomorrow at least.

Okay here we go with more of the good mountain cooking
BLACK BERRY COBBLER
enough black berries for a pie maybe a gallon or so.
sugar to taste, small amt of butter,
biscuit dough, enough for a bunch of biscuits
cook the blackberries until they come to a boil sweeten to taste,then add some butter. cook until thick. roll out the dough cut as for biscuitsand drop into the berries. the roll some dough thin and cut into strips and place on top of the berries. put in oven until the crust on top is brown.
SWEET POTATOE PIE
2 cups sweet taters diced and cooked. 1/2 cup sweet milk, pinch of salt, 2/3 cup molasses, biscuit dough, 1/2 tsp ginger, other spices if desired and 1/2 stick butter.
mix together all the ingredients except the dough and bring to a boil cut rolled dough into cubes and drop into the boiling mixture. put thin slices of dough on top and bake until crust is brown
FRIED PUMPKIN/SQUASH BLOSSOMS
make a thin batter using an egg, bout half cup of flour and milk. dip the blossoms in it and fry in hot grease. serve as u would any vegetable.
LIGHT BREAD
1 cake yeast 2 med taters, 3 tsp sugar, 2 tsp salt, 1 pint warm water , flour
dissolve the yeast in 1 cup of the water. cook the taters, mash very fine and add yeast along with 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp sugar, and the rest of the water. put in a jar and leave in a warm place to rise. sift flour and mis it in with the yeast mixture along with 1 more tsp salt and 2 more tsp sugar. keep adding flour until it makes a firm dough. let rise to double, knead and make into loaves. let it rise for 1 hour and then bake at 350 until it tests done by poking a toothpick in and it comes out clean

WELL TODAY SINCE YALL LIKE THE RECIPES AS WELL AS U DO I WILL ADD SOME MORE
CHOW CHOW
1 peck green tomatoes 2 oz cloves
1 peck string beans 2 oz celery
seeds
1/4 peck small white onions
2 oz allspice
1/4 peck green peppers 1 lb brown
sugar
2 lg heads of cabbage 1 box yellow
mustard seeds
1/4 peck red peppers 1 oz tumeric
4 tbs white mustard seeds
vinegar
Chop the tomatoes, let them stang overnight in their own juice. Squeeze out the brine. Chop the cabbage, peppers, onions, and beans and mix together and add the tomatoes and the spices and sugar. put in a porcelain kettle and cover with vinegar and boil 3 hours. when cool seal in jars
WATERMELLON PICKLES
4 lb watermellon rind 2 qt cold water
2 tbs whole cloves 4 lb sugar
1 qt cider vinegar 1 tbs slaked lime
2 tbs whole allspice
10 2 inch pieces of cinnamon sticks
remove all pink pulp pink from rind. peel outside peeling from rind. weigh. cut in 1 inch circles or cubes. combine cold water and lime. pour over rind and let set 1 hour. drain and then cover with cold water. simmer 1 1/2 hours or till tender. drain. tie spices in a piece of cheesecloth. combine vinegar, 1 qt water and sugar. heat until sugar disolves. add spice bag and rind and simmer gently for 2 hours. pack rind in clean hot sterile jars. fill jars with boiling hot syrup. seal. makes bout 12 half pints
OLD FASHIONED GINGER BREAD
1/2 cup sugar 1 1/2 tsp ginger
1/2 cup butter 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 cup molasses 1/2 cup sour milk
2 cup flour nuts or rasins if
1/2 tsp soda desired
mix all ingredients together, put in large loaf pan and bake for bout an hour. this recipe is at least 100 years old
DRIED APPLE CAKE
mix up a regular white or yellow cake recipe and bake it in 4 thin layers. mix 1 pint of dried apples with 1 pint of water, and cook until thick and the apples are mashed. sweeten to taste with syrup and add some spices, whatever u like best. let cool a bit and spread the mixture between the layers and on top of cake you can cover the sides if u want

Hi all kitties. Well here we are to continue this hillbilly way article on moonshine
HOW THE BESTOF THE BEST WAS MADE
For this section, two men who are reputed to have made some of the best to come out of Georgia tell how they did it
Go to the wood and find a good place. Make a mudhole which contains plenty of good thick red clay for use in the furnace. Also construct any water lines needed for the flake stand
Choose the corn. Do not use a hybrid or yellow corn. Use a good fresh pure white corn which will produce about 3 quarts of whiskey per bushel. Get nine and a half bushels.
Put at least a bushel and half of corn aside to sprout
In winter, put this corn in a barrell or tub, add warm water, and leave it for 24 hours. Then drain it and move it to the sprouting tub. Cover it with pretty warm water, leave it for 15 minutes and drain the water off. Put the tub close to a stove and turn the cold side to the stove at least once a day and so on
In summer simply put the corn out in the sun in tow sacks and sprinkle warm water over them once a day and flip the sacks over.
Take the remainder 8 bushels of corn to be ground up. Take this meal to the woods the last 3 or 4 days should have been spent building the furnace and installing the still. Build a fire under the still. Fill it nearly full with water and stir in a half bushel of corn meal. When it comes to a boil, let it bubble for 35 to 40 minutes. Cook it wll or it will puke too much when cooking later. When it has cooked sufficiently, bring one of the barrels over. Put it under the slop arm of the still, push in the plug stick and let the contents of the still fill the barrel. Add a gallon of yet uncooked meal and let the hot contents of the barrel cook it alone. Make sure it is stirred in well. Move the barrel aside and repeat the whole process until all the meal is cooked, and all 7 barrels are filled. Go home.
