COTM & COTD catpaign for THURSDAY 8/28...
EB here, bringing what's new on today's catpaign. SAM our MAN 31019 and his beautiful wife Oreo have been catpaigning hard and meeting their supporters along the way. 13 year old Charlie #72389, our special COTD candidate for Wed. August 20th, lives the life of leisure in his senior kitty years! However, it wasn't always the cat's meow for Charlie. In his own meow, this is Charlie’s Story: "I honestly thought I was going to die! There I was, alone, abandoned by the other people who professed to love me and only 1 year old. I was scared, hungry, and in the dark! I was left in a closed box on a stair well in the apartment building where I once lived. I couldn’t get out of the box and I didn’t think anyone would hear me! But, then he came… The first thing I heard was his friendly, gentle voice, then I saw a face that matched the voice. I knew at that moment, that I had found my forever family! At first it was just Daddy, the dog, and me. Then Dad married my mom and I had more family to love me! Now, it was Dad, Mom, big sister, doggie Nero, and Silver and Homer (who are now angel kitties). Can you believe my luck! Out of all the people who could have taken that box, fate chose Dad to rescue me. It’s been 12 years since then, the happiest years of my life! I am a roast beef addict! My mom goes to the supermarket and buys extra roast beef for me every week. I also like to sunbathe daily. I also like to be held and cuddled and snuggled and I don’t mind if they sing to me, either! Jaz was returned to the shelter for anxiety issues, including urine marking. The Maine Gang gave her a royal welcome to their fold and provide her with love, her own "space", & kitty valium to help with her nerves when necessary. Jaz is a cherished member of the family, sleeping at night on her Mom's pillow or chest to watch over her as she sleeps. She can often be found during the day in the cat tree or in a basket on her favorite blanket. It is a remarkable testament to the love and care found in this cat family that Jaz would not only settle in but blossom and flourish. PLEASE give a COTD vote of support WEDNESDAY, JULY 30 to adorable MISS'STACHEE #39772 of the Arizona clowder! You may remember her beautiful face gracing the pages of the May issue of Cat Fancy. Miss'stachee won the Best Mustache contest and placed Third overall in the Virtual Cat Contests! Miss'stachee became a member of the Arizona clowder when her kitty mom went missing when Miss'stachee and her siblings were just over 3 weeks old. Miss'stachee, her sister Bootsie #39755 and her brother were brought inside to join the clowder and with the love and support of their foster kitmom, MADAME HOUDINI #8578 of the clowder, they were taught how to be proper indoor kits. Miss'stachee and her sister Bootsie are permanent members of the clowder while their brother lives with their Aunt. Madame Houdini still grooms and washes their faces on occasion. The hardest lesson for the babies to learn: p--p, cover, and then walk. They were bathed in the sink more than a few before they learned the lesson of clean kitty toilet use. Miss'stachee still tends to be shy and skittish except with her loving Mom. She loves to play, eat and nap on her Mom's lap when Mom is taking dictation from the whole clowder for their blogs. Miss'stachee adores the laser light and will even sit by her Dad to get him to run her in circles with it! Miss'stachee #39772 & the whole AZ clowder extend a Thank You paw for your support and be sure to enjoy her pictures when you stop by for a visit on Wednesday, JULY 30! COTD VOTE NITRO 81157 on THURSDAY 7/24...
Nitro's mommy was looking for another kitty to bring into her home to love, and as a brother or sister for her little girl Tattoo. When Tattoo crossed the Rainbow Bridge his mommy was heart broken and couldn't bear having a home without a kitty. Nitro's mommy looked on the Denver Dumb Friends League's website and saw an adorable black and white kitten playing and full of energy on the 'Kitten Cam', so she went out there to see him. The friendly staff told Nitro's mommy he was born in a barn on March 16, 2008 and his birth mother was killed by tractor when he was only 3 weeks old. His birth mother's family took Nitro and his 2 siblings to the Dumb Friends League because they had no idea how to take care of such young kittens and wanted them to go to good, loving homes. At the time Nitro really had no name he responded to, and since his mommy likes Dodge vehicles and he's such a little ball of energy, she named him Nitro. Nitro came to his furever home May 17 where he's a loved, spoiled powerhouse who loves to play, sit in the sink, and grab anyone's ankles who just happens to be walking by (written by Nitro's mom). Once upon a time, a long time ago, she was socializing a painfully shy "scaredy cat". This fluffy Birman fella would just curl up in her arms and hide his face in the crook of her elbow. The shelter manager walked by making the rounds as she prepared "The Dreaded List" just as the fluffy fella was being put back in his cage. Shai's Mom jokingly asked if the shy Birman was on the list, figuring such a handsome fella could never meet such a fate. The Shelter Manager gave Shai's Mom "the look". The shy Birman boy did not "show well" due to his fears and the shelter was overflowing. Shai's Mom immediately volunteered to take the Birman home to foster, saving him from the euthanasia list that fateful day. The Birman Boy spent the first two weeks hiding his head in the crook of his foster Mom's elbow. By the end of two weeks, Shai's Mom had fallen in love with him and so adopted Shai furever! It was still months before he would take his head out from her elbow. So she named him Shai, which means "gift" in Hebrew and because he was just so shy. Shy Mr. Shai is still shy when strangers come over or sometimes when there are new rescue kitties like Mo. Currently, Shai shares the home with Jes, Socks, Mo and Smudge. Shai is best buddies with Smudge! You can see pictures of them together as they always hang out when Shai is not on his mom's lap. Shai sleeps right next to his mom's face at night or elsewhere on the bed with Smudge. Shai & his Mom have been together for over 6 years now and she will never let him go! Shai is very smart as he knows his name and when to come in at night. No one knew much about Artemis before she landed at the ASPCA. Her Mom and Dad came in to find their first fur baby. This beauty, manipulated her way into their hearts , so much in fact that they knew right away to make her one of the family! Both Artemis and Mom were a bit shy, but with time, they slowly but surely started building an unbreakable, loving bond. Now they have lots of fun together playing one of Artemis favorite games of Hide n Seek, although her rear end and wagging tail are most always in plain sight. She is now a happy indoor kitty and resides with her extended cat family that includes, Thalia, Milagros & Lola, Chupko, Ricky, Kimsel, and Arslen. Diana's cat mama, Branka, is a semi feral cat that brought Diana and her litter-mates to this safe kitty haven when they where wee kitten's. Diana became ill and her adopted Mom caught her and nursed her back to health. Since then, Princess Diana has happily lived indoor's, getting along great with her 2 brother's Dodi & Gus, her sister and all of the other feline member's of the Belgrade clowder! Last year Diana did somehow escape from the home (probably jumped the balcony), and roamed outside for 3 day's. She was lured back into the enclosure and then brought back indoor's where a Princess belong's. She hasn't tried to escape since. And yes she is named for the beloved People's Princess of England, who enriched the world with her humanitarian work prior to her tragic death in a car accident. Her doctor still suspects cancer but has not found the source; they want to stabilize her before proceeding with further biopsies. Gabriella Esmerelda Doodle of the Green Mountain Gang AKA Gabby has recovered from several illnesses. She is like the energizer bunny and keeps going and going! Gabby still has her girlish figure...and hardly a wrinkle.. and just a very few gray hairs! Gabby was one of 30-40 kittens who began life in a barn. She was rescued along with her brother Angel PK and has been living the life of luxury with the rest of the Green Mountain Gang ever since. Gabby even has a heated bed! Her story brings to life the Robert Southey quote "A kitten is a rosebud in the garden of the animal kingdom!" You see, it was her kitten's cry from a flower bed towards the final days of September 2005 that helped Mittens, then a wee fur ball, find her furever home. A crying MITTENS, #62059, was rescued from the garden flowers by her Mom who was then told by the vet that Mittens was all of maybe 6 weeks of age and only weighed 1 lb. & 1 oz.! She was but a little garden bug with extra toes. Mittens is now a beautiful tabby polydactyl girl who knows how to wrap her big paws all over whatever she wants! True to her beginnings, Mittens still loves to be outside in the garden with her Mom. Mittens loves to watch chipmunks, squirrels and birds. She still knows how to cry for whatever she wants too! Whenever her Mom is gone from her line of vision for too long, Mittens not only cries, she screams! She is dearly loved by her whole family that includes Mom, Dad, Gypsy, Minuette and the loving spirit of their guardian angel from across the Rainbow Bridge, ANGEL MISTY. When Jewel's family decided to get Rocky a playmate, they were determined to get a black and white Maine coon to remind them of their beloved Angel Felix. The breeder told them they might have a long wait because no black and white kittens were expected(breeders know these things with all their scientific genetic charts). Was everyone ever surprised when the next litter arrived with two black and whites that were not supposed to be there! Not only is Jewel beautiful, but she is an 18 pound sweet snuggler. Camping is his all time favorite activity, he takes morning strolls all around the campgrounds and loves to everyone. Woody is alsonot afraid of any dog's, he will stare them down. When Robbie's human pawrents were visiting the shelter, they noticed Robbie tossing a toy mouse up in the air and catching it. This was pretty amazing so they asked to visit with him. Robbie's purrs and snuggles won them over and they took him home to his furrever home. Robbie has gotten acquainted with his big sister Muffin, who has learned to love him alot although once in awhile she will act grouchy. Who couldn't love Robbie? He gets enjoyment out of making people laugh. Robbie's philosophy of life is to have fun, give lots of purrs and snuggles .... nobody likes a crabby appleton!
