Xena has gone to Kitty Heaven Xena passed away about 10pm Central time Friday night, February 19, 2010. I sat up with her as she lay on her favorite table, softly stroking her and telling her she's a good girl and how sorry I am that she doesn't feel good. She passed peacefully. I prayed that Jesus would take her to my Mom in heaven to live there with her until such time as my wife and I go to join her. I am sure that prayer was answered and that Xena is with Speeders (the white cat in the pics below) chasing each other all around my Mom's house. Xena was a real lover at times, jumping up on Mommy's or Daddy's lap, cuddling and purring and just laying there. But she's a torty. When she had enough, it was enough. Time to go lay on the back of the sofa behind Dad where he sits at his computer so often. And maybe a quick bat as she passed by, as if to say, I'm independent... I only need you a little, now and then. So Mrow! Well, she needed me that night, and I stayed with her quite a while... until she had breathed her last and gone to heaven. The next morning I took her remains to the animal clinic and said a final goodbye before they took her away for cremation. It has been almost two weeks now, and we still miss Xena every day, and I think her brother Buddy and sisters Angel and Callie miss her too, especially Callie, who grew up her entire life with Xena. Thank you for your kind wishes. May God bless you and your kitties, too. -- Jim and Valerie, owned by cats.Come visit me, Buddy Bear, Callie, Angel, In Loving Memory of Xena & In Loving Memory of Speeders.

Xena has been feeling ill Xena is now 12 1/2 years old and has been feeling ill the last month or so. She has been vomiting a lot more than the other cats ever since she first came to us a few years ago, and the vet had us give her Pepcid 10 mg tablets, quartered... 1/4 tablet before meals to reduce stomach acid. That seemed to help for quite a while, but then it started getting worse. We had to give her tablets more often. And she started crying for no reason, and then decided not to eat any more. She will drink some water, and then often throws that up. Then one morning she threw up some liquid... took a few steps and threw up some very dark fluid (blood, we think). So off to the vet again. They put her on some sucralose, 1/4 tablet dissolved in water and squirted into her mouth, for ten days, in case of an ulcer. After lab tests and an ultra sound (they shaved her pale white tummy... it used to be dark brown fur) and more lab tests... they determined that her stomach wall lining is thicker than normal (but that may be a result or symptom of the vomiting rather than a cause). The doctor also saw some possible pancreatitis, hence additional, more specialized blood tests, which confirmed that she does have pancreatitis. So the vet put her on a liquid easy-to-digest diet from Hills, called Cat Sure, and we are to continue the Pepcid. That seems to help, so we are continuing that. She has to have about 1/3 of a can per day, but it can be given in small doses, several times a day. She's a good girl about taking it and gulping it down, but she won't drink it from a bowl. So, we're trying to help Xena feel better, and it does seem to help, but it may take time. Please keep Xena in your kitty-prayers, and I'll post here now and then to let you know how she's doing. Thanks! -- Jim and Valerie, Xena's pet humans.Come visit me, Buddy Bear, Callie, Angel, In Loving Memory of Xena & In Loving Memory of Speeders.
