About Me

Active within 332 Days

Hi! My name is Seven

I am Domestic Shorthair from syracuse, NY

Nicknames: I adopted him from the Central N.Y. SPCA in Syracuse. His number was 727. With the speed he runs (flies) through the house, he is nicknamed "the 727", just like the Boeing jet. I guess the SPCA gave him the right (flight) number!

Age: 6 years old

Gender: M

Coat: short haired

Education: I adopted Seven 6 weeks after my precious cat Oscar died of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy on August 31, 2008 after a 9 year battle with this horrible disease. From day 1, Seven sleeps by my side, and there are times I wake up in the night, and he is laying half under my neck like a pillow. His love and companionship have been a blessing.

My favorite tricks and treats are: Seven has become exceptionally good at playing fetch. When he wants to play, he will bring me a toy and drop it at my feet. His once favorite item was the red rubber "I Got It" balls from the N.Y. State Fair. Each year after the Fair, these balls are all over the Fairgrounds from people throwing them in fits and rages of frustration. Lately, his favorite object is a small Coca-Cola stuffed polar bear. He carries it all over the house, and meows constantly as he carries it. and Seven is still more about playing than eating, but he will go crazy over homemade pot roast. The ingredients in treats is usually horrible, so I stick to feeding the boys healthy organic cat food. In fact, after eating organic and healthy for a couple of months, I gave the boys some treats they always loved. Everyone got sick to their stomach.

Where I hang out: He absolutely loves empty 30-packs. After the last soda is gone, he will crawl into the 30-pack and take a nap. Seven also loves to get into places he's not supposed to be. He has now taught T. Kitty to bap in empty 30-packs.

My favorite grubs: Since Merrick discontinued his favorites, and all of the others have liver as an ingredient high on the list, Blue Buffalo flaked tuna is now the favorite.

My pet peeves: He is not happy if the litter is not spotless. I will see him walk into the laundry room (where the litter is) and walk back out. I'll go in and scoop the litter, and he will go back in and use it.

What I love about my owners: Incredible love and companionship.

My cat hobbies: He loves to play. He is now an adult but he plays like he is still a kitten. Nobody knows when his birthday is exactly, but around February 14th seems right. What he loves to do now is carry cat toys throughout the house. I can't believe how big some of the stuff he carries around is!

Pet motto: 727. Not just a Boeing jet anymore.

How We Met

In late September of 2008, a co-worker was on the CNY SPCA Website looking at dogs. I asked her to click over to cats. As we scrolled through, I saw one that looked like my departed Oscar. I went to the SPCA and this cat (a female; number 747) had already been adopted. I looked at the other cats, and found two that were so beautiful and sweet - numbers "726" and "727". I put in my adoption papers, and had to wait for them to be checked by a vet. On a Saturday about a week later, I received a call informing me that 726 had passed away. I couldn't wait to go there Monday to see if 727 was o.k. The SPCA was closed for awhile for employee training, and when they reopened, I found Seven in a cage in the room reserved for cats awaiting vet checkups. He was so happy to have company that he made a complete mess of his cage rolling around in it. Luckily, the Vet was there, and a wonderful person at the SPCA took the 727 to be examined by the Vet. After a week of medication, I was able to take him home. When I picked him up, the same person who took him to the Vet brought him out for me and as she held him, he licked her face. She said "he's so sweet". She was right on the money as Seven is one in a million.

Hey Seven!
I hear that! "Because I said so" is a perfectly valid reason for me! I don't usually have to throw my weight around much these days. Everybody here knows I'm "the boss". Haha!

So, did your dad get you all your own package of white cheddar rice cakes? I think I'd rather just have the white cheddar. Although there is one cat here who would rather have the rice - LOVES rice krispies! Go figure!

Hey Seven!
Stuff my mother taught me:

My mother taught me TO APPRECIATE A JOB WELL DONE.
"If you're going to kill each other, do it outside. I just finished cleaning."

My mother taught me about TIME TRAVEL.
"If you don't straighten up, I'm going to knock you into the middle of next week!"

My mother taught me LOGIC.
"Because I said so, that's why."

My mother taught me MORE LOGIC.
'If you fall out of that swing and break your neck, you're not going to the store with me."

My mother taught me IRONY.
"Keep crying, and I'll give you something to cry about."

My mother taught me about the science of OSMOSIS.
"Shut your mouth and eat your supper."

My mother taught me about STAMINA.
"You'll sit there until all that spinach is gone."

My mother taught me about HYPOCRISY.
"If I told you once, I've told you a million times. Don't exaggerate!"

My mother taught me the CIRCLE OF LIFE.
"I brought you into this world, and I can take you out."

My mother taught me about BEHAVIOUR MODIFICATION.
"Stop acting like your father!"

And my favourite: my mother taught me about JUSTICE.
"One day you'll have kids, and I hope they turn out just like you!

>Hope you're all being good to dad on mother's day! It's his day next month!<

I know what you mean about being in charge of a couple of spirited kitties! I'm pretty much in charge around here, and I find myself being almost overwhelmed at times. You notice I said "almost". These kids get pretty frisky, but they still know who's The Boss! MOL!

Dear Seven,
Since I spoke to Cody we were curious about you. Great story of the 727.I like to fetch too. Mom and I used to
play all the time. Somehow I don't do it as often now.
Dad used to throw things so much better than mom. She was too careful.

I am really sorry I didn't come by yesterday for your 'brothers' birthday. Are they feeling any more sociable today? Heck, five is nuthin'. Try adding another ten years to that! MOL!

I think the best thing for you to do is just lay low until they get over the 'blues'. I never have the blues on my birthdays though - I just party like a wild man! Hahhaa!

Hope you are all having a great weekend so far.

Hi Seven!
Mom is feeling better, at least the cold is gone. NOW the allergies kick in! We're having 50+ mph winds here, and with the pollen being so high, it's really rough today. *coff coff* Haha! Mom needs no further excuse to stay indoors and read other than the wind and the pollen. BUT....

She and dad went major pet shopping today, Wal-Mart AND PetCo. (So much for staying indoors, but it WAS for a good cause!) Got us 2 new mats for our crates, a package of new filters for our PetMate fountain, a big bag of our bestest favorite food, and a bunch of dog stuff which we can ignore. Except they got some dog cookies that look like, well, COOKIES! Dad said if he wakes up in the middle of the night he'd probably eat one or two and never know the difference! More than likely.... MOL!

I know what you mean about some pet-parents being completely incompetent. They don't want to learn about the behavior of their animals, and then learn to manage the behaviors in a positive way. They always want things to be easy, and have a simple (lazy) fix. things don't always work that way though. Thank goodness our M & D are willing to learn and understand WHY we do what we do! And even then, we are always throwing them a curve ball! Haha!

Hey Seven!
Your street sounds similar to ours. Up until 2002 it was barely a street. It was paved - kinda - but there was no way anybody could go too fast, because it didn't go through. You had to make a 90 degree turn less than 100 yds. past our house. Now, since they revised it, it does go straight through, and it's like a runway! People easily hit 50+ mph now. And it makes mom really mad.

Well, mom had never heard of a derecho storm so she looked it up. It sounds scary, and widespread. We have storms here that really come up in a matter of minutes. And very localized. It can be blue skies, and then within 10 minutes, the winds will come up, gusting into the 60+ mph range, rain and hail, but usually no thunder and lightening. Then, poof. It'll be gone. Might only last 10 to 15 minutes. The sun comes back out, and it's a beautiful day again. very strange.

Hey you guys have a great weekend. We have had a forecast for snow, so we know we'll get to lounge around in front of the fireplace and be lazy. We're always lazy, just not always in front of the fireplace! Hahhaa!

Hey Seven!
We do sort of live in a rural area, but we have the misfortune of living on one of only two busy streets in town. It didn't used to be, until the city did a sort of traffic revision and now it's the alternate route through here.

So, since our road is so busy, we are never allowed outside. Once in a blue moon we get a stray mouse in here, but I can't remember ever having caught one myself. That would mainly be Toby's job.

I don't know about tornadoes, mom thinks it could have been something like a micro burst or something like that. It really came out of nowhere! We hate when that happens! And it actually happens around here more than we like. Probably at least once a year.

Hope you all have a great weekend planned. Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I know what you mean - humans get pretty squeamish when their kitty leaves them a mouse body or bird head as a gift! Go figure. Actually, mom always says it's too bad there aren't "Mouse Body" or "Bird Head" cat treats. I second that!

Well, it's Monday, and there's no sign of that storm we heard about. Out here though, storms can come up FAST! One year mom was in the front yard planting some flowers, and all of a sudden a HUGE storm dropped down! It was hailing, and the wind hit gusts of 93 mph. Mom had to run around the side of the house and come in the back door. It was scary. It went through fast, too. It was over in less than 20 minutes, and when mom went back out, there was a little chicken in the yard! It must have gotten blown in - from who knows where! Mom brought her in, dried her off, and kept her for 10 years! She just died last year. Mom loved that little chicken! :)

Have a great day! Headbonks.

Hey Seven!
How goes the weekend so far? Ours was going pretty good until this "daylight saving" curse was thrust upon us! Whoever came up with this terrible idea anyway? We usually start bugging mom about 5:30 or so in the morning, and she gets up at 7. So we have a good hour to an hour and a half of tormenting her without mercy. But now! 5:30 is 6:30! So we only get about a max of half an hour to pester the Bringer of Food! SO very not fair!

Mom was busy yesterday making a German chocolate cake, to which we all mostly said, "Eh". But then she cooked up some ground chicken and some yams. Now you're talking grubs! She mixes some of the chicken and yams into oatmeal and an egg that she makes fresh every morning. We love our fresh grubs! And with this daylight thing, we actually got breakfast a little sooner than before. I guess the trade-off of losing torture time but moving grub time up an hour was worth it. Sorta. Maybe. Almost kinda.

Hope you're having a great weekend! Headbonks

Hey Seven
Sorry about being AOL the last few days. Mom got really busy, and then just wanted to relax and read at night. See? I told you we get behind, and mom tries to get caught up on the weekends.

I think showing Jerry Springer will do more than keep you accustomed to noise and commotion. That would make me nervous and cranky - something I'm not right now! Quiet country home is good! We live in a rural area, and we love it. It seems like civilization is slowly creeping in, and mom is upset. When we moved out here 23 years ago there was nothing between us and the city but 12 miles of nothing. Now it's all getting developed. They call it progress, mom says. She calls it clutter and invasion! But what're ya gonna do?

Hope you guys have had a stupendous week, and have a fantastic weekend planned! Headbonks.

Hi Seven,
Could you do mom a teensy favor??? could you please tell her to repond to?? She thinks she might be writing wrong things to the wrong kitties, and she doesn't want to hurt anybody's feelings.
We wish that those kitties were adopted but unfortunatly for mom and dad they all became angels. You can read a little about them each on the Smoke's Angels Page. Mom lost most of those Angels in the last 10 yrs so it has been a difficult time for her. Most of them had major medical issues, so she became quite a kitty nurse. All of our angels reside in our kitty cemetary which looks more like a rock garden now.
Its wonderful when kitty's get along right off the bat, but more often than not they don't and this is what mom is currently dealing with. Mom has noticed over the years that the boys are far more accepting of a new kitty than the girls are. Things are much better today than a year ago so mom knows that we will all get along eventually!!!
I love to carry that toy, I have others I carry too just not as much as I used to!!! Dot has kinda taken that over!!!MOL!!! Purrs, Tucker

Hi Seven!
Yes, we do have cool names! Unique. I was called hot Rod because when I was a little kitten I would race through the house at top speed, and mom would say, "Hey, slow down there, hot rod!" So, that was my name. Also when I was little mom used to bring me shopping at PetSmart, and so I got really comfortable around people. Now whenever I have to go to the vet's office I walk around like I'm the boss! The girls there always say they never saw a cat so happy to be at the vet!

That's one of my nicknames - Boss. Because I'm so cool and calm. Nothing upsets me, and I'm not afraid of anything. Not that that's always smart.... Hmmm. I might want to reconsider that attitude.

Hope you're all having a rip-roaring weekend! Ready for take-off.... Haha!

Hi Seven
Of Course we are all fixed, funny you should say that cause it is one of my mom's pet peeves!!! You see when I came home there were still 4 kitties here and Mouse arrived a month after I did. She was Always shy from having been abused, I watched as all my furiends go away, never to come back. I became very depressed after my dog went to sleep and my best WWF bud died shortly after him. I started to hunt Mouse, this would not mean immediate time out only if I persisted. I even caused Mouse to quit eating so mom now seperates us. I have come a long way in the past year, those times are very few and far between now. We recently added Dot to our family and she is my kind of girl rough & tumble, so Mouse is no longer the only kitty in the house for me to try to play with!!!MOL!!! Purrs, Tucker

she does find mouse & I sleeping together every once in a long while!!!

2/28/13 Final Official Blog of King Barney! +30
Wow! That does sound final! Tomorrow we sleep in--- wonder if the dogs will understand. Ginger woke mom before 4am today and had to go out. Zeus is trying to wake her up with purr therapy. This month has flown by, though there were days it didn't seems so. We have been kept busy with prayers and visits to sick kitties and families in our realm and with fun celebrations too!

Well, I have been been searching for an appropriate story for this morning and I keep coming back to mom's friend Anne, who isn't a rescued cat or dog, but probably one of our best friends. Mom says she learned most of what she knows from her, about our needs and behavior. Mom met Anne when she first joined the rescue. Anne was the oldest member, even back then, gruff to people, but one could not find a kinder or more caring person, when it came to rescuing cats and dogs. Anne was the real work horse of the group--- making sure everyone had food and supplies, bringing it to the colonies of feral kitties the rescue supported. Live-trapping cats, bringing them to vet appointments for healthcare and spay/neuter. Anne helped with transportation to adoptions and had a special Kennel license for her home. She fostered many special needs cats through the years, ones needing regular medications, having physical disabilities, or diseases such as feline leukemia, which other groups might euthanize.

When mom first met Anne, she didn't talk much, especially to new people. You had to prove that you were there for the long haul. Finally, when mom's car died, she needed a ride to the adoptions and Anne gave her that ride. Gradually they became closer and Anne began asking her for help with such things as kitten and cat trapping. She taught mom about caring for motherless kittens and understanding the needs of feral cats. One weekend Anne had a family event to go to and she asked mom to take care of a cat she was fostering and had a feeding tube. Mom doesn't even remember why it had a feeding tube, but she then realized that she had earned Anne's trust.

You may remember that we announced last weekend that Anne needed to go into a nursing home. Mom does hope to visit soon, as it is not far from our home. Anne surely needs your continued prayers. She was always a fiercely independent person and has not had an easy life. When she was young, she had an alcoholic husband and raised 5 children without much assistance from him. After she lived by herself and dedicated her life to the rescue. Now she is in her mid to late 80s and has both physical and memory issues and surely is struggling with depression, because she always was the one who took care of herself and others. Do apologize for ending on a downer, it was not intended. The up is that we are all in this life together, no matter who we are--- cat, dog or human. As we age, the lines between friends and family blur and we are dependent on both, whether near or far away.We thank you again for being our CC family.

What an unusual name, and I just love the story behind it. I'll bet you purr like a jet, too! I heard you are a regular Fred Astaire! Is that right? I'll bet we would have lots of fun tripping the light fantastic! (I have no idea what that means - mom told me to say it!). I guess it means dancing! I am very agile, especially for a blind kitty. I can even climb up onto high things and then get back down again all by myself. Makes dad a nervous wreck. But mom has confidence in my abilities. Come on over some time and we can do a little toe-tapping! We can't kick up our heels, though. Cats don't HAVE heels! :)

2/23/13 Happy Caturday and Big Thank You All!
Thanks for visiting Hefty, Seven and family! Sorry we did not start yesterday, but mom was just feeling overtired with all the snow she had to clear and then there was Zeus, who snuck out twice! The snow was soft and up to his neck. Didn't stop him! Mom just stood outside and let him have a good run, because chasing him wouldn't have done any good and he does know where the door is.

Anyway, we want to thank you so much for our Meezers ACOTD and all the friends, who came by in memory of the fourth Anniversary of A.Rosebud's passing. Rosebud was very special to mom and I don't know how much you know of her story. She was originally rescued as a kitten by a friend of mom's. She was probably over two years, when mom's friend asked her to kitty sit Rosebud and another female black LH named Midnight for the first time, because they were moving to Duluth, MN and did not have a house picked out in that area yet. The two cats were neither spayed or vet checked for a long time, so mom took them on the agreement that she would get that done, with no cost to the family. Mom's friend has a learning disability and the family had other dysfunctions, including an alcoholic husband. The cats were not abused, but there was never money for proper vet care. Anyway, the cats were spayed and returned to the family, once they had a home in that city. A few years passed and the family was moving again. This time they had Rosebud and a year old pup named Ginger and were planning a drive to Florida. Midnight, who was up in her teens, had passed the Bridge due to breast cancer. When mom had her spayed, she had several tumors and they had been removed, but they did come back and she was brought to a vet and euthanized, before they moved again. The Tumors were inoperable and cancer had spread. Anyway, this time they asked mom to take Rosebud and keep her, because they knew mom loved Rosebud and would give her the best home possible. Mom also asked for their dog, a Rottweiler mix. She could see that Ginger was very gentle and friendly, but fearing the family had been living homeless more than once, she knew that often Animal Control people would simply euthanize certain breeds of dogs, if they were taken in. Mom was determined that that would not happen to Ginger. The original contract was that they had to demonstrate they had jobs and a secure place to live. That did not happen. Ginger is almost 13 and still with us.

Sorry, we were going to tell more about Rosebud too, but are running out of room, so will do that on Tuesday. Needless to say, she also lived with mom several years until she crossed the Bridge. Thank you so much for all your votes, both for her, our Angel Meezers and for me, King Barney. As I come to my last week, I cannot totally tell you what a special time it has been and do hope our friend JosieMae has as much fun as we have. Love to all, K.Barney and family, mom Judi too.

hi seven =^..^=
hi seven, it's been a long time! i haven't been able to log on due to technical difficulties, but cat channel techs have me all straightened out so it shouldn't be a problem anymore. i just saw your last blog to me and was so sorry to hear about angelkittygang. i had no idea that there was a problem with the site. what happened?? i am sorry that you had a problem with it, and i will not recommend it to any other kitties. i hope you guys are all doing well. we're all doing fine. mom just got us a really cool cat tree at an estate sale the other day and we're all loving it! she also got a litter robot litter box which is getting mixed votes right now. shadow and mia use it, but i'm not too sure about it yet. she got a great deal though, the box and tree for $20. it was from a home on her mail route, so they offered it to us for a great price. well i need to go stretch now and lay in the sun, so i'll meow at you later. have a purrfect day! licks and purrs, seven

Come visit me, shadow, mia, smoky, angel ming 4/6/08-9/11/08, sasha, mao sing & seven.

hi seven =^..^=
it was so nice to hear from you! i'm very happy to meet you and have a new furiend named seven. your story is very heartwarming. it sounds like a real blessing for both you and your papa that you found each other. i'm very sorry about oscar's passing. we lost our little sister ming a few months ago, so my mom and dad can empathize with your papa's pain. if he visits angelkittygang.com he can have a little memorial to oscar there. they will post his picture with all the other wonderful angels. angel ming has a little profile and mom finds it a comfort to stop by and see her from time to time. don't know if your papa would be interested or not, but it's a nice site if he is. i'm glad you're staying warm! your waterbed sounds wonderful! it's been a warm winter for us out here.probably only a total of two full weeks that have been chilly or wet.(so far!) our front door is almost always open because it's been so nice out, so we hang out there and watch everybody walk by. much better than having to go to work like mom and dad! we love those wand toys too. we have one with a white seagull that hangs from the end that we ALL love. shadow does the same thing you do. he drags it all over the house. mom thinks it's so cute the way he drags off his prey with that stick trailing behind, but she won't let us have it when nobody's around because she's afraid we'll get tangled up with it. we all have different toys we like, but that is the one that the whole family loves. whoa!! i'm sorry, i didn't mean to write a book! i promise ii won't do that the next time. i'm leaving you a vote, and i'll talk to you soon! in the meantime, keep having fun and taking good care of your papa! licks and purrs, seven

Hi Ya Seven!
Thanks for dropping by to say hi again. I did have a wonderful holiday. I got some new little toys in my xmas stocking and enjoyed climbing the xmas tree. I'm upset that the tree is now gone. Last week, it felt like summertime. The weather was so hot. Then we got a little rain and we are back to the normal temperatures now. I've just been looking out the window and watching the crows walk around. I am an indoor kitty but sometimes I sneak out when my owners go outside to take out the trash. Then I get put back in the house again. Nice talking to you. Have a good day.

Come visit me, Seven.
