What I love about my owners: I'm a feisty old gal! They love me, even when I'm grumpy. Dad lets me sleep on him! In fact, I rule Dad's lap and the others have to share Mom's.

How We Met
A number of years ago Inga and her feral friend Romeo slept in our window well every night. As the weather grew colder we felt that a trip to the vet was in order, and Inga was captured faily easily. She made the transition to house cat and now in her golden years spends almost all of her time indoors. Her dear friend Romeo remained outside and came to the backdoor when called for meals every day. He crossed over the Rainbow Bridge in March 2008. Inga misses him. Their picture together on the deck is typical of their summer days together.

Please paw by & meet this beautiful Champagne Point Tonkinese kitty. KAYLIN #251700 is not just a beautiful face she is also a CFA Champion & a Mom. She was hand picked for her new parents by her sister Wendy's breeder when she found out how sick Wendy was. But this sweet girl was already a mom so her new parents had to wait to bring her home. All of her kitties found their furever homes & then she had her Big Girl surgery. She was finally able to come to her new home in January. She wasn't sure if she wanted to stay at first, but her new parents gave her lots of love & support so we are happy to report she is settling in quite nicely. KAYLIN #251700 spends her days hanging out on Mom & Dads laps, playing with her toys, & napping in the sun. She also likes to tear through the apartment at top speed and has been known to do it in the middle of the night too. Her most favorite things to eat are the Roast Chicken that she shares with her parents, and her Blue food. Vote COTD 4/29 COLT, WINCHESTER & KIMBER #251320
This week’s special recognition candidates were found on the side of a road near a wooded area when they were barely old enough to fend for themselves. Their guardian angel was working hard that day & led their new mom to the right spot where she picked up the three mewing furballs & took them home. These precious sibs have stolen the hearts of many CC members by mom’s picture postings on FB & it’s pawsome being able to watch them grow up here in our loving community. Colt and Winchester love to talk to calm Kimber down because she’s very shy, unlike her more outgoing sibs. They love to play with their mouse toys & frequently pick on their bigger sibs throughout the day to see how much they can get away with. You can often find this rambunctious trio of young felines looking out of the window talking to birds, or playing with their light up ball. They’re snugglers too! They’re often found in the lap of mom or grandpa or you can see them snuggling happily together in their kitty bed. The inseparable trio of COLT,WINCHESTER & KIMBER#251320, are also keeping the house hopping with their energy level so let’s help them bounce off the walls a little more by pouncing by to paw them a COTD vote today, Monday April 29th, so they can earn their very first badge of honor tomorrow!

Cute as a button Dixie was dropped off at her future home where she now happily resides with her humans and fursiblings. She has learned how to love from them and quite often you can find her hanging out on her mom or grandmom's lap. She doesn't have any pet peeves but she loves jumping into open drawers. As many of you know, 17 year old Minnie D Purrl crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Tuesday 4/2. Minnie was a member of a wonderful family of cats known as the Windy Point Gang.
We’re choosing to copy Dad Mike’s exact words that he used to tell us she had crossed--
“She was losing her battle with Hyperthyroidism and her quality of life had decreased dramatically over the last five days. This afternoon Minnie was assisted by our vet, Dr Madsen and myself on her journey. She was 17 years old when she passed.
It is particularly sad for me because Minnie had given me a litter of seven Easter Kitties when she was only 9 months old. I always celebrated Mother's Day with her on Easter. (Sigh...) This year we celebrated with some baby food that I held for her since she was too weak to stand and eat.
Minnie leaves behind her boyfriend Tiger Mann, who is the last of the original Windy Pointers...and of course, her sad Dad.”
Minnie is now a member of the Windy Point Angels #237234, those members of the Windy Point Gang who are now Angels at the Rainbow Bridge. We learned that this special group of Angels has never received their COTD badge, and we want to change that by making them our COTD winner on 4/6. Dear CC Furiends! You are cordially invited to come and meet Fang & Drooler #236550 on Monday, April 1st! These precious kitties are so thankful to have a loving family after they were abandoned when their previous owners moved away. Their new family, who are long time loyal members of CC, realized that Fang & Drooler faced an uncertain future because of their advanced age and medical conditions; so they decided to take them in and try to find them another home. Fang & Drooler #236550 have now taken their place among the other rescues in the family! They love to hang out with mom, enjoy spending time in their beds or on the couch, & enjoy playtime outside! They both meow their displeasure with car rides, strangers, vacuums, & trash trucks; Fang, in particular, has an aversion to feathers, preferring to play only with a shoelace! These sweet kitties are also dealing with an Auto Immune disorder: Drooler has had 7 teeth removed as a result; Fang suffers from mouth and paw ulcers, and is not too happy that he has to take medications for the ulcers, insulin to treat Diabetes, stress, & will start meds for Hyperthyroidism. Along with Luvbug, Lil Jag, Buster, Smudge, & Angels Kuce, Sphinx, & Dancing Bear, Fang & Drooler #236550 have been given a chance to live with this wonderful family, who are well known to everyone for the love and compassion they have for homeless and abandoned cats! Fang & Drooler #236550 crave love and attention & will be overjoyed to have furiends come by and visit! We hope you will leave a vote so they can have the honor of winning their very own COTD award!

Earlier this evening, we shared the very sad news with you that Barb Sussman, Mom to Angel Chloe and Lucy had passed away suddenly on March 1st. Even though they haven’t been very active lately, Angel Chloe is a long time member of CC and was our December 2008 Queen. After Chloe crossed the Rainbow Bridge in January 2011, her Mom Barb decided to adopt a beautiful calico cat named Lucy. Lucy has never won a COTD badge and we'd like to award Lucy with a COTD badge on Easter Sunday in honor of her Mom Barb. Neelix is a very handsome seven year old tabby who was rescued along with his brother when he was a tiny kitten abandoned in a parking lot. Since that tiny kitten was adopted by his loving pawrents he has trained them to be excellent staff for himself and his brothers. Regarding his brothers, Hedley and Jakar, the three of them comprise the famous (or perhaps infamous) “pawty animals”. These boys are always the life of any party, they create lots of fun at every MHL Mouse Hockey Game, and they are always the first to lend a paw on any project that benefits the CC community. They’re always there to offer comfort to the sad, good thoughts and healing wishes to the sick and congratulations to those who are celebrating. Neelix and his family always support the COTD and COTM candidates. They are a credit to the CC community!
Neelix is an outstanding member of our CC family, and since both of his brothers already have their very own COTD badges, it seems that it is time for Neelix to have one of his own. Won’t you please drop by and give this handsome guy a vote, on Monday so he can have the badge he so much deserves.

We are please to introduce this week's Special Recognition Candidate, Percy #245206. Percy came to be at her forever home due to the kindness of a neighbor. The neighbor took in Percy's mom cat and once her litter was born, the human daughters at her forever home fell in love with her. Percy #245206 stood out because of her wonderful personality. Percy is a prima donna kitty until it is playtime; then watch out! Percy #245206 loves to play with her sibling, Simba, and she enjoys ambushing him. They have a grand time together playing with their toys and each other. Percy is also a talker. She loves to have a conversation and even comes when her name is called. That is smart since a treat may be involved if your name is being called, and Percy #245206 enjoys Temptation treats. She gets a little upset, though, if she is expecting a treat and she is ignored. Percy #245206 can use her paws like furry hands and manages to open things. Percy likes to sit on the back of the recliner and watch her family as she relaxes and observes what is going on. ~Trixie's Tantalizing Animal Tales~ March 17th
Top O the morning & Happy St. Patrick’s Day!! I thank all of my bonny furiends for filling my pantry with goodies for my adoptiversary day yesterday & also for the outpouring purrs of love & vote support! Being furiends with all of you is better than finding that elusive pot of gold at the end of the rainbow & a whole lot easier than catching a leprechaun…MOL! Well, tis the wearing of the green day kitties! The phrase "the wearing of the green", means to wear a shamrock on one's clothing & is derived from an Irish street song lamenting the repression of supporters of the Irish Rebellion of 1798 with the same name. Saint Patrick is said to have used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to pagans in the land. Betcha didn’t think I knew those little tidbits did you? I’m a kitty that’s full of surprises, plus my sweet mom is from Irish heritage so she helped…MOL!! Today I’m inviting you to rest your weary paws after a full day of walking around at the zoo yesterday. My sis Patches has whipped up some green tea, shamrock catnip cookies & a big pot of Irish stew for anyone that gets hungry today so help yourself & take it easy as I meow to you about one of the Brookfield Zoo’s most famous inhabitants.
~GORILLA SAVES TODDLER~BINTI JUA (whose name means "Daughter of Sunshine" in Swahili) is the niece of Koko, the gorilla world famous for learning American Sign Language. Her mother, Lulu, was originally from the Bronx Zoo and died on January 24, 2011 after residing at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. Her father is Sunshine (from the San Francisco Zoo). Binta Jue is a female Western Lowland Gorilla that lives at the Brookfield Zoo & received international attention when she saved the life of a small child. On August 16, 1996, a three-year-old boy fell 18 feet into the gorilla enclosure at the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago. The child was lying unconscious when Binti Jua picked him up and protectively cradled him into her arms. The heroic gorilla gently carried the child to the zookeeper's door, where he could be rescued. Binti Jua had her 17-month-old baby, Koola, clutched to her back throughout the incident. The boy spent four days in the hospital and recovered fully. Binti Jua displayed an incredible act of animal altruism when she saved the life of this small child & has touched the hearts of people all over the world. This animal hero story is truly inspiring and Binti Jua is one of the most famous animal heroes ever known & even has her own Wikipedia page!

~TRIXIE'S TANTALIZING ANIMAL TALES~ March 1st
Happy March 1st everyone! It’s time to wake up because there’s a calico cyclone pouncing into your homes & my happy twirls & spins will twist you around until you’re dizzy…MOL! Most of you have watched me grow up here on CC after I was brought to my furever home on March 16, 2010. I was a wee little thing then but my catitute was already full grown & I made myself right at home in my new surroundings! And then I started pouncing around CC…MOL! Needless to say I made my catitude known around here too but you accepted me with open paws & loving furiendship that will forever be cherished. Okay…before I get teary eyed I’d better concentrate on my campaign.
To start off my COTM campaign I’m going to tell you about some of the world’s smallest animals. Please watch where you’re pouncing today & don’t swish your tails too hard so we don’t hurt any while we’re looking at them! We’ll start off with…the WORLD’S SMALLEST DOG IN TERMS OF HEIGHT: the smallest living dog is Boo Boo, a long-haired female Chihuahua who proves that good things come in small packages. Boo Boo is just 4 inches tall and weighs in at a mere 2 pounds. She lives in Raceland, Ky., with her owner. WOW…only 4 inches tall means she could be mistaken for a rodent if a cat has bad eyesight…MOL! The next dog on our visit today would have the same problem so please keep your claws retracted kitties or we could have a lawsuit on our paws! The WORLD’S SMALLEST DOG IN TERMS OF LENGTH: The smallest dog in terms of length is Heaven Sent Brandy, a female Chihuahua who measured 15.2 cm (6 in) from the nose to the tip of the tail on 31 January 2005. Brandy lives with her owner in Largo, Florida. Now we’ll move on to some petite pooches that deserve our respect for their abilities! WORLD’S SMALLEST WORKING DOG isTiny Lucy! Meet 6-inch, 2.5-pound Lucy from New Jersey who Guinness recently named the world's shortest working dog. Besides being incredibly cute and tiny, this Yorkshire terrier is also a therapy dog.
Since we started with dogs today it’s only fair for us to end with our own species…MOL! Now we move on to…the WORLD’S SMALLEST CAT: Mr Peebles, a 2 year old domestic cat of Central Illinois holds the Guinness Book of World Records award for the smallest living cat (his small stature is due to a genetic defect). Weighing in around 3lbs he is 6.1 inches high this is definitely the smallest cat I’ve ever seen! Mr. Peebles also has his own Facebook page so pounce over to check it out.
And so my first day of campaign chaos ends & the tiny dogs & cats can go back to napping. Since tomorrow is Caturday we’ll be taking off to visit a zoo someplace in the world so plan to be at the community airport early to get a good seat on one of our planes, & don’t forget to bring along your camera. Storm Frost is a beautiful little Tabby kitten who is the sister of Julius Steven, a friend to many of us. Like her brother she is a caring member of our CC family and can often be seen visiting sick kitties, comforting sad kitties and their families and of course supporting the COTD and COTM candidates.
When Storm Frost was born, To Sparkle Frost, another kitty in the family, Storm Waters, had just miscarried her litter of kittens. Storm Frost and her sister Baby Frost were sort of adopted by Storm Waters and she nursed them cleaned them and taught them what they needed to know to be good kitties. Their birth mother, Sparkle Frost has since been adopted out to a good home, but they are still being loved and groomed by the sweet kitty who adopted them Storm Waters.
Storm Frost and her family are loyal and kind members of our CC family, won’t you lease help this little sweetheart earn her COTD badge. Her family would be proud and she will be very happy

Most of you know Boo Kitty and her Mom Jane as the creators of the beautiful frames that many of you have received when you were a COTD winner! Boo Kitty came to live with her pawrents Jane and Rudy when she was just a wee kitten, and it didn’t take long for her to capture their hearts, followed by all of ours once we were introduced to this sweet Ragdoll! Handsome Simba was waiting to be adopted when his future mom came looking for a female cat. He jumped right out of his cage and into her lap and she fell madly in love. He now happily lives with his new family and fursibling Percy. Simba comes when he is called and loves drinking water from your hand and doing a sit-up for treats. While he enjoys looking out the window, he gets very angry when the neighbor cat is in his view and takes it out on poor Percy. It was a very happy day for Chloe #225879 when she was rescued by her forever family! Mom found Chloe under the porch at her workplace. Chloe was taking care of a kitten, so Mom rescued them both, and named the kitten Laci. When Mom checked with the vet, she found out that they were not litter mates! Chloe is 4 months older than Laci, and has gained some weight now that she doesn’t have a little one to care for. Chloe #225879 is a very important member of her family, and she is thriving! Chloe loves to play; her favorite toys are catnip-scented pompoms, and balls that have jingle bells inside! Like many of us, Chloe’s has a least favorite activity, and that is getting her nails clipped! Her favorite places to hang out are on Mom’s lap and on top of the cat condo! Jakar is a handsome 3 year old who always looks good in his basic black. He was born feral, but became a beloved member of his family as a tiny kitten. He’s a fun loving guy who loves to play fetch with his pawrents, always bringing them toys to toss for him to retrieve. He also likes to wrestle with his brother Hedley who outweighs him by a lot!
He and his brothers Hedley and Neelix are active in MHL hockey and have become very good players in just a short time.
Perhaps the most important aspect of Jakar’s personality is his kindness and loyalty to his CC friends and family. Not a day goes by that you don’t see Jakar offer congratulations to his friends, bringing kind words to those who are ill or sad and supporting the CC family as a whole. Jakar is a wonderful and caring member of our CC community. Let’s show him how much we appreciate him by joining together to vote for him on Monday the 28th, to bring him his COTD badge. Handsome Zeus was rescued from a kill shelter by a rescue group and is now living with his foster mom until a furever home is found for him, though by her admission, that may change. This sweete little boy is proving to be a handful by getting into all the places he doesn't belong. Hehehe! He loves playing with wand toys and catnip mice. You can find him hanging out on the top of the coffee maker, in the sink, the top of the computer or on the stove. Now we see where he gets his rep for being in all the wrong places! Gracie #230155 is a beautiful 5 year old Persian that was with her former family for only 8 months. Sadly Gracie was displaced when her owner brought a new puppy home & her husband didn’t want to keep both Gracie & the puppy. There is a happy ending to Gracie’s story though, because her forever family was quick to take her in and she now has her own special place in their loving home! Mom tells us that Gracie had two litters of beautiful kittens and was a wonderful mother. Gracie #230155 is loving, has many interests and is very talented! She is very deft of paw and can swipe food from your plate if you look away! Gracie is a cheese lover, and also enjoys cheesy treats! One of Gracie’s favorite things to do is play fetch with foam ear plugs! She also enjoys being outside when the weather is good, and can hop over the fence to get out to the front yard! Quiet time is spent getting lots of love & pets, lounging on the bed or sitting by the window! Gracie’s wonderful family also shares their loving home with fursibs Bandit Bob, George and Lulu/Trixie! 1/2/13 Wow! Good thing I got mom up early!
Have to start by thanking all of you for votes and for my second COTD! I am so honored. Well, I did manage to get mom up earlier, actually at 4AM, but she moved slow and it is already past 6:30am here in Minnesota. Don't know what your favorite method for waking Pawrents is, but mine is to walk on mom, until she moves and then until she protests, which happens quickly. I don't even compare to Hefty's weight! Of course, he's still sleeping. Supposed to be a warmer day and the temp here is already +17! All irrelevant, since we are technically "indoor only." Zeus and I challenge that from time to time, mostly Zeus now, because I know its for the best in Winter.
Well, I did say I was going to start talking about my family. I think I'll pick on mom, because even though she has always liked cats, she probably wouldn't have considered her a cat person, until the last 20 years. Her mom loved all animals and grew up on a farm, back in the days when all the animals had a name. She taught mom to love all creatures, but died when mom was only 8 rears old. Mom's dad had grown up on a farm too, but was not so attached to nature, although he loved dogs and had one as a child. Mom got her first dog in her teens, a Boxer. She got her first cat in college, while living with a roommate, who was an artist and also loved cats. When she moved home after college, however, the cats went to her roommates mom, because mom's dad and grandparent, who she lived with, did not want a cat. For many years mom lost contact with her beloved kitties. Later in life,during the time she was caring for her grandmother, however, she decided to get a cat, a Siamese she named Pasha, who she found through a newspaper add. Someone had rescued him, but couldn't keep him, because he didn't get along with her other cats. Mom then learned her first lesson about strays--- free cats are not free! Although he had been given shots and the first rescuer thought he was neutered, he began spraying and peeing outside the box. Mom took Pasha to the vet and found out two major problems. First he had a bladder infection, probably due to stress, but also, he had surgical scars the whole length of his belly! The vet's guess was that he had one testicle left inside his body, not where it was supposed to be, and during the original neuter, the vet must have not found it and had to give up. The second problem was that Pasha had an abscess in his tail, which the vet had to lance and keep a drain in for a few days. Mom had to keep it clean and the hole open to drain the infection--- not the way to impress a cat with his new mom! Or, for mom to learn about the perils of rescuing.
Perhaps we will stop here with a word of inspiration from our current foster bro, Zeus: his philosophy is that Life is Adventure and his New Year's resolution is that if you can't find an adventure, create one!

This is our last special recognition catpaign of 2012 & we’ve got the purrfect kitty to ring in the New Year! ALUMINUM #240737 is a beautiful young kitty that was noticed at a local vet office when mom was looking for another kitty after the loss of her special boy. There were several strays up for adoption but none of them caught the eye of mom until she came to the cage of a sweet adult cat that had finished weaning her litter of kittens & been spayed by the clinic. As soon as her would be mom picked her up & cuddled her she knew she was the purrfect one to join her family. She took her home that day in a crate that wouldn’t latch but did great holding the cage door closed even though her hand was being attacked the entire ride home. As soon as Aluminum #240737 arrived at her new forever home she settled in quickly & began purring.
She’s extremely loyal to her mom & follows her on every walk she takes plus loves to wrestle & play bite with her. Aluminum says there isn’t a treat on the market that she won’t eat but only eats wholesome, good-for-you cat food. It's a wonderful life
Philip Van Doren Stern (1900-1984) began a short story, The Greatest Gift", in 1939. He was inspired by a dream, and reminiscent of the 1843 Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol. Stern shared 200 printed copies in 1943 with friends as a year-end cards after numerous publisher rejections.
Luckily, the pamphlet came to the attention of a RKO movie producer who purchased the rights. Frank Capra's production company saw the movie potential. He paid $10,000 for the rights in 1945. Stern's story was adapted into the most loved and memorable American family film, "It's a Wonderful Life" in 1946. Director Capra's inventiveness, humor and affection for human beings keep it glowing with life and excitement.
On Xmas eve, George Bailey's guardian angel shows him all the lives he touched and how different life in his community would be had he never been born. Although George repeatedly sacrifices his dream to travel the world, he realizes "No man is a failure who has friends."

This handsome little guy is the newest member of one of the nicest families in our CC community. He was born on the eve of the 4th of July to Bagheera Boo. His dad is Champagne De Lancer. When he was born it was love at first sight, and his family knew he was right where he belonged, in his furever home. Like most of us he has some things that annoy him, like loud noises and storms, but in general he is a gentle, loving and beloved member of his family. He loves playing with the other kittens in his family, and while he enjoys his play, his family enjoys watching him play every bit as much.
He needs our support to help him get a shiny COTD badge to add to his page. So let’s all put our paws on his vote button and make his day.
